Advice - Thanksgiving Week

For the Hyatt experts, I booked a week for the renovated HRC in Dorado PR for Thanksgiving week before this Covid thing started. I think they have now delayed the actual opening until that week but regardless. Although we are still almost four months away, I don't think things will change much until next year with regards to travel restrictions and everything else (no crystal ball but time goes by pretty quick). If I'm going to cancel, when (how much longer I should wait) should I cancel and still have the best possible use of those points? I'm looking forward to that trip and seeing the renovated facility, but looking more n more like it is not going to happen.

Advice?

If you cancel, do it more than 60 days prior to your reservation date. Canceling less than 60 days out results in your points going in to LCUP, which means you can only reserve 60 days out or less from your desired check in.

So Hyatt is not doing any extensions if you cancel within the 60 days window?

if you cancel 60+ days out, your points are handled as usual. If you cancel inside 60 days, they become restricted. Hyatt has been extending the life of restricted points but they are still restricted.
