Advice on Wyndham

I need some advice concerning Wyndham. My wife's friends father has passed away and he had a timeshare at Kona Hawaiian resort. She has offered it to us for free. It is 231,000 points, mantenance fee about $1,000 per year, no liens etc. My wife and I are now empty nesters so we are free to travel. We do live in the great white north near Toronto. I have read the info on Wynham on site, but no little about the other systems. My wife and I would travel a week or shorter in general. My question is Wyndham the best for us, and if so do we need less points and something cheaper. Thanks for any advice.

It's possible to trade Wyndham points into RCI Weeks, but it's a fairly clunky system and not easy to get what you might want.

So for your purposes, I'd just review the Wyndham Points catalog and see if there are properties you'd likely want to travel to and stay at, and at what cost in points per year.

If you can plan 10 months ahead nearly all properties will be available to you, and many are available on shorter notice.

Can a non member (of Wyndham Club) see the points?

I can't see the points as a non club member, unless I just don't know how to work the website. Are any Wyndham points useable at any Wyndham resort within the 10 month out window (without using RCI)? If so, is the only benefit to Club Access points the 13 month ARP for those resorts that are part of that program? Thank you.

PS - UI probably should have read the sticky before asking these questions - I'll go do that now.

Here is how it works. With your 231000 points, you can reserve ANY Wyndham resort up to 10 months away. You can reserve your Home Resort between 11-13 months before the actual vacation. There are "Worldmark" resorts out west, but they only have a certain number of suites available for us (Wyndham and Worldmark are seperate).
Club Access just gives you more resorts available for ARP.

One of the timeshare resellers has a chart for most properties.

I'm sure the major resellers on Ebay could supply points charts as well.

Here is a reference to some points charts.

Between that and what Conan posted from which you can descern location, should give you enough to investigate further, or look for specific resort point charts.

Read the member directory

I found the Wyndham member directory listed in the stickies to be most useful. It has all of the properties (as far as I know) and lists points needed for each for each type of room. I am not officially a member, yet (awaiting my documents), but I felt that they were the best fit for out needs.

Good Luck!

I own two contracts at Kona - owning in HI is good as it gives you the ability to trade with RCI and Trading Places - Trading Places allows you to get two weeks for each HI week you deposit - you can also use one of those deposited weeks through TP and get $600 - which would make your week vacation cost $400 MF + $200 trading fee -

231 would also get you about 2 weeks or more in other locations - especially if you are ok with a one bedroom or studio and if you book within 45 days.
