1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?

Oregon coast destinations would be seen the most, but would love stops in Hawaii, good skiing, and Disney/theme parks.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?

Not sure.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?

Carribean, Europe,

4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself?

Four-two adults, two kids

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?

School schedule

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?

Usually. Though spur-of-the-moment weekend trips might occur more often, especially in the summer/fall

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?

Yes

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?

3 and up. We aren't too fancy but clean and safe are important.

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?

Will be looking at resale preferably. Like to keep it at or under 4 figures.

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?

$500ish

11) Are you a detail oriented planner?

Yes

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?

Yes. We purchased 20 years ago (dumb college kids, 'won' a free night at a local resort and fell for the high-pressure sales pitch) and then had to give back when we were both laid off for an extended time. Looking to get back into timeshares, but with a bit more knowledge than last time

You will need 2 bedrooms, and annual fees on that size in 3* and above will be well over $500. And exchange fees to 'trade' are on top of that. IMO you need to budget $850-$1000 a year for MF.

Suggest you look at Worldmark The Club. There is no Home Resort. It is a pure Credits/Points program. There are 90+ Resorts. Mainly west of the Mississippi. Resorts in Newport, Depoe Bay, Gleneden, and Seaside. Two on the Long Beach Peninsula in Washington. Four in Hawaii. 5 in Mexico. 1 in Fiji. Resorts in Portland, Seattle, Redmond, Bend, Running Y near KFalls, Leavenworth, WA. Etc.

I agree with the Worldmark suggestion mentioned, but you need to double your expectations for both upfront investment and ongoing maintenance fees. If that's not within your budget, I'd probably eliminate from your mind the idea of buying a timeshare.

Definitely recommend Worldmark. You can buy a 10K contract which which allows you to book a 2BR unit for a week at most properties for about $3K to $4k. You do need to double your MF budget.

I concur with both of these experienced Western based TUGgers. They know of what they speak.
