Advice on not receiving paycheck

If an employer decides to close their doors because they basically ran out of funds and then does not provide the last paycheck due to the employees, including accrued vacation time, is there any recourse? Is there any agency to contact, short of an attorney?

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Of course there is someone to complain to, and in California it's probably the Department of Industrial Relations. Check out http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/HowToFileWageClaim.htm

You can also inquire at Employment Development when you go to see about your unemployment claim.

You probably won't get much. I think your claim becomes just one of the claims in bankruptcy, but I think labor claims get some priority.

Thank you for the information. I kept hoping the paycheck would show up, but it hasn't.:( I will file a claim.

Thanks again.
