We got the lowest rental quote from Advantage Car Rental in Orlando for two Febr. 09 weeks. I have rented cars in Orlando many, many times but never from Advantage. I don't mind taking a shuttle from the terminal to their rental location. I know this is a very competitive industry with prices changing almost daily. For now I have postponed my decision but would like to hear of any good or bad experiences with Advantage. Thanks.

We are booked through CarRentals.com with Advantage for a pick-up this Saturday at MCO. I will be sure to post follow-up after our trip.

BTW, our rate for the week was $191 for a midsized, as compared to nearly $400 with others for the same period and sized car.

You can always book a car at the best rate today and rebook or cancel later if rates drop with them or someone else. This is a game I play regularly for all of my rental car needs.

OUr daughter's family just returned after using advantage for 12 days and with the exception of the pickup were very impressed - they had a decent price on a mini van - about 400 less than the others and they had a dodge grand caravan - brand new. We found it on carrentals.com

Bad News!

Our travel plans to MCO/FLL today have been botched by fog here in Milwaukee resulting in our flight being canceled. When I called Advantage at MCO to advise of our delay in arrival schedule they told me that there was a good chance there would not have been a car here for me today, or tomorrow for that matter . . . and that if they had a car, they were no longer guaranteeing rates. He said that they had been calling customers all week to cancel car reservations and was surprised that we didn't get a call (especially since we had a $191 for the entire week rate).

He told me that the auto manufacturers are "withdrawing vehicles" from their rental fleets leaving the agencies w/o cars, period!

Not good!!

Given that we couldn't get into MCO until Monday and a rental car was essential since we're staying down in the Ft Lauderdale area, we are just going to make an adventure of it and drive down! I hope there is no snow next weekend when we have to return to Wisconsin.

My advice is that if you have a rental car with ANY agency in Orlando you will want to double check . . . and especially w/ Advantage!

Manufacturers " withdrawing vehicles" - this can't be credible ? At the time when overall demand for new vehicles is at a record low level why would anyone want to "withdraw vehicles" ? Sounds like a silly excuse to me ! Has anyone ever heard of this practice ?

Greetings from Chatanooga, TN.

You know we wondered the same thing about "withdrawing cars" but who knows what is possible. Perhaps they need to pull the program cars from rental agencies to sell to liquidate their used inventory. Maybe this is a way for "Detroit" to get Americans to panic as this is a way to affect the average family - - screw with their vacations by not having rental car inventory. I don't really know. Actually, I thought that the rental companies owned the cars in their fleets and that they sold them when they were at 20-30k miles.

All I do know is that I was told that even if we had gotten into MCO today, it was highly unlikely that they would have a vehicle for us and that there were no other rental agencies in any better position.

As an aside, and kudos for AirTran . . . they gave us a full refund on the purchase price of our tickets. No refund, however, for the $6/segment/seat fee :( That money ($24) will go "on account" and must be used within one year of when we originally bought the tickets (6/09).

Likewise Kudo's to Airtran from myself as well. A few weeks ago my flight from LAX - Ft. Lauderdale (via Atlanta) was delayed several hours after a bird strike damaged the cockpit windshield on landing at LAX, forcing AirTran to remove it from service and fly out another plane from Atlanta.

While the ticket counter line (at 5:30am) wasn't enjoyable, Airtran rebooked us on the replacement plane and connecting flights and immediately gave us a "care package" which included a $10 meal voucher at any LAX eatery and a coupon for $25 off a future flight. They got us in the air about 3 hours later than scheduled, made our on going connection to Ft. Lauderdale and were true to their word. Also their website for mobil (smart phones) displays works very well!!!

A far better experience than we had last spring on ATA (not related company) which is now out of business.
