My son, his family and some friends asked me to book a reservation for late June 2020 through RCI using our HGVC points. At the time of the booking (late last year) they chose NOT to buy the RCI trip insurance offered. In the light of current events, they are concerned that they may not be able to use the June reservation. What are their options at this point? Can they add insurance or is it too late?

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you cancel the reservation 31 days before check in you will get all your points back. You will have a pretty good idea by that time.

While the current policy is that they are allowing full refund at 30 days (rolling) out, that policy could change at anytime. I certainly expect it to go through April and maybe May but I don't think it will continue throughout the summer or indefinitely. Points protection gets you the points back but not the exchange fee. Currently if you op for it and are within 30 days under the current policy, they will refund the cost of protection. The exchange fee is in the form of a coupon with a limited date to book. Other ancillary fees like points protection and guest fees become normal credits without a expiration date and without a limit on what they can be used for.

I wouldn't necessarily jump in to buy points protection but keep up with rci cancellation policy and possibly add if they discontinue the current rolling 30 day cancellation policy.

I have a previously booked early June exchange. I was able to add insurance about 10 days ago.

I don't have points, I have weeks. But when I cancelled a reservation for April I was asked at that time if I wanted to add insurance.
