Adding days

For booking the hard-to-get places, you book the three-day minimum right at the 9-month mark at midnight (or an earlier day and walk). I've got that part. But when adding days onto it to get to the desired length, is it critical to do that extension at midnight each night you want to extend by a day or is that safe to do anytime the next day. I would think the latter but would like to be clear on the timing (and I don't relish staying up that late).

If it's a high demand resort or time period, it's best to do it at the stroke of midnight. If not, you could do it in the morning.

I tend to do the midnight 3 night booking and then add each night the next morning. When the reservation crosses a Friday or Saturday, then you can think about a midnight addition.

Also, there are two ways to do it; get the three nights and then walk the 3 nights to the week that you want, then at nights or get the 3 nights, add the nights that you want, and then walk the whole window to where you want it. Unless, you are lucky to land the first 3 nights in the actual week that you want, then you just add nights.

Move to the west coast. It's 9PM here :)

Just did some point manipulation on a reservation and 9PM is more civilized than midnight.

I've only walked once and was in New Orleans at the time, so I actually did it in the morning and it was fine. With that said, this was not a super hard to get location, but we did want 14 nights. For more than a month after, our dates were still available, so this is not the best test. But it did work early in the morning.

If you start by growing the reservation from 3 days to longer, rather than walking the three and growing when in final place, it seems that it would create a greater barrier to entry to others as your reservation grows.

Cheers.

Yeah, I lucked out and was able to get the start date of the booking I wanted without any walking but wasn't sure if I needed to be adding the extra nights to get to a week at midnight also, or just do that in the morning.

You can go it each morning but it doesn't hurt to stay up to midnight when it crosses the weekend. That is the busiest days

This. If it’s a hard to book resort, you most definitely want to walk at midnight when you cross a check in day. There are usually several people walking at any given time and if there are less weeks available, one or more of you is going to miss out. Otherwise, you can walk in the morning.

if I have a booking and only the next night becomes available, no one without a booking can grab it, so won't at least one room be available for each of us?

this assumes we are all exactly at the 276 day mark

You don't know how many weeks are taken via HW so there could be a different number available once you cross over into a new week.

New week meaning check in date and there are check in dates on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday so each of those days could start the next HW.

Definition-wise, do we consider walking moving the check-in date, moving the check-out date, or both? I've contextually thought of it as only the former, but this thread has me wondering. I appreciate the help, I'm consigned to doing the late nights for this one.

@brp I was on the west coast and would love that timing now, but am in the Caribbean for a couple of years, so it's east coast time for now :(

Anytime you book a three night stay to get your foot into the door and then change dates to get the dates that you need. I have added days to both ends and moved the whole window. Let's say that you want a Friday check in but don't get it and can only get the Saturday. You can walk the reservation and then later hope that the Friday opens to add one at the beginning.

It all depends on the amount of HW reservations on the next weekly cycle. If there are less weeks available than the previous week, there are people who will miss out. Thats why it’s important to move that day right at midnight.

What also may happen is some days might be pulled out of inventory in the middle of the week for HH and RCI exchanges.

so that should matter but only on the nights home weeks become available at that resort?

When I walk a notoriously difficult resort (Ocean Oak), I try and book up to a week early and just move the 3 days until my checkin day is correct. Then I extend until my reservation is what I want. Even less difficult resorts, I still walk. Since we book large rooms, I have a tendency to walk at 276 days so I make sure I get what I want.

Or a month...I walked 7 of them at the same time for this past summer...

The scariest was walking 2 rooms at the same time at Ocean Oak. Always thought I was going lose the second room. Never had an issue.
My 7 were at OO... At the same time... Got all 7.. But it was a lot of work

So I am trying to get late July(after July 12th) at either OO, Ocean Enclave, or Ocean 22. I know that I will have to walk it, but I see spots in the Calendar around July 4th week. So how do you guys get around that? I think I need to start walking the week after any of the 1st Open spots on the calendar.

So do those Open spots on the Calendar mean that those are already taken Home Weeks? Did I already miss the window to start walking this resi?

Yes. You won't be able to walk over breaks so you will need to start after.

Rarely have I had to walk MB. They are usually available to just book if you plan early. Ocean Oak will need to be walked for prime times but can just be booked in off season
