Adding a rental unit at Marriott Grande Ocean

I have been an owner at Grande Ocean for 20+ years. Happy owner - traded for several other Marriott properties thru II but generally just go back to GO since we love HHI.

This year we would like to add a 2nd unit during our April week so that my daughter and her family can join us. I can rent the same week through Redweek.com with varying prices. We would really like to have adjoining units since the children are all young. Does anyone have experience at renting a 2nd unit for a week and getting the units adjoining? I talked to the GO desk and they told it was possible but couldn’t guarantee adjoining or even same building units. I’d like more certainty before renting the 2nd week.

I wrote a little about this in my review from last summer. Our unit possibilities were limited because most oceanfront/close to the beach units were being held for families who wanted adjoining units. I don’t know if that means the families owned multiple units or not but it seemed like Grande Ocean was going out of their way to make sure the adjoining units stayed available for families who had not yet arrived.

I don't own at Grande Ocean but I have had success in getting "like" units in the same building at OceanWatch and Newport Coast. In fact, the units are usually adjacent or at least on the same floor. Having said that, please give the resort a break by calling a couple of weeks before to make the request. A successful request at check-in should not be expected.

We've been going a number of years with multiple units. We've had 14 or more units (max 17) for about the last 10 years in a row. The staff there have always been amazing at getting us close together. That said, getting them side by side might be a challenge but same building and floor shouldn't be a major issue even if one is OF & one OS. It might lessen your choices on location though. If the unit you rent is actually an owned unit (not exchange or exchange on points) then the priority should be the same and give you a reasonable chance of a decent location/floor/view AND close by. Just let the resort know about 2 weeks ahead of time that your priority is same building and floor as close as possible and you should have an excellent chance of success. The only thing that could possibly trip you up if you communicate properly and make reasonable but limited requests is if there's a last minute problem with one of the units assigned.

Thanks for the feedback. I feel better now about committing to a rental thru Redweek.
