I usually book any tours or activities directly with the merchant or agency. I was just curious do the concierges usually offer any type of discounts or better access to things? We are headed to Waiohai later this summer and one of our travel companions asked me about this..

I not looking at discounts in exchange for doing a presentation, but was curious if I am missing anything by aways booking direct.

I went to the concierge in Vegas to inquire about ticket discounts. She just pulled up Vegas.com and showed me the same options there I could book myself. No discounts at all.

Just to close this out. I called the resort directly today, and they said they will provide a discount of 5% off the website price booking with them.

Not huge, but its something... Of course you do give up a certain amount of control by adding a 3rd party in the middle of the transaction.

Our trip to Waiohai was 2008 so I'm not sure if concierge bookings still work the same now? The reason we booked all our activities through the concierge rather than direct with the vendors was because they were billed on the stay folio, so we got the bonus BONVOY (Marriott Rewards at the time) Points for incidental spends and for using the Marriott VISA.

It is definitely nice when they will do it that way! Unfortunately I don't think most of them will anymore. I know at Surf Club last year they would not. We had to pay directly with our credit card and it did not count as Marriott spend either.

I had forgotten about the possibility of charging to my room to get extra points, that has worked for me sometimes in the past and other times they wanted a credit card. Since I am trying to book in advance, i am guessing they will ask for CC to bill to.
