Activities offered at resorts - do you even care?

We never book/not book based on a resort's activities. However, when at our home resort in Hawaii we regularly participate in the weekly Fire Up the Fun (chef demo) and the Sip & Savor (wine tasting) activities. We always meet another couple at these events and learn about them and their interests in timesharing, etc.

Unless you consider the TS sales presentation an "organized activity" we generally do participate either. And then there has to be a pretty good bounty for our time.

I can count on one hand the # of resort activities we empty nesters have joined...one or two wine & cheese parties, an acrylic painting class for DH, a $99pp day trip to D.C. from Massanutten, and a crawfish boil at Fairfield Glade.

The usual offerings of craft activities and movie nights don't hold much interest for us. I did like the bus trips offered at Massanutten. Kilconquhar in Scotland and the Marco Polo resort in Austria also had them on offer, although we didn't participate. Do wish that the German resort we'll be at later this month would have that option as there are many sights I'd rather be part of a group tour to visit, e.g. Burg Eltz.

We rarely do any activities. However at Sedona Pines they bring in this couple that does fun folk song type music focused on Arizona. It was terrific and I’d go back in a minute.

I like the poker and casino nights at the Royals in Cancun. Have also done ping pong, poolside bingo and beach volley ball.
I miss the poker now that we stay at Lagunamar, but the comfortable poolside loungers make up for that.

We only have set weeks for our timeshares to be near family at certain times of the year. So, then we are focusing on time spent with them rather than what is going on at the resort. The exception is when we exchange if family members have other plans for our set weeks. Then we can use the time to explore a new place. In that case, we do go to events to mine for info from other owners on what is worth seeing in the area. Or sometimes, it's nice to just stay in the unit and do quiet activities to relax without going anywhere. So, the answer is yes & no - but we never go anywhere based on the activities.

I think it just all depends. There are some regular events we just LOVE at Carlsbad Inn. For instance, they have a welcome reception and a bon voyage reception on the lawn with some snacks and boxed wine and live music. It's casual and we like it. They also do a movie night on the lawn which kiddo loves.

Every now and then I have done the free yoga classes offered at various resorts. And we have done a few arts and crafts here and there.

But most of the activities offered at most resorts don't really fit with our schedule or what we like to do.

Agreed! They have wonderful programs! So interesting about the area and wildlife. I've never been disappointed. The first year I was there, they had this wonderful singing cowboy. I recently learned we are now related through marriage!
I've enjoyed the yoga teacher there for years, and even earlier, her water aerobics classes. These are just freebie activities I've enjoyed. The art classes are outstanding, too!

We have participated in some activities here and there. Depending on resort location, weather and traveling party.

I think it's nice when there are some activities offered throughout the day or certain days of the week.

We very rarely take part in any activities when visiting resorts. Our home resort has a welcome breakfast and an ice cream social which we do attend because it gives us a chance to talk to other owners that we have come to know over the nearly 40 years of ownership and sometimes guests who are new to the area. We are usually staying at a particular timeshare to enjoy and explore the area, not go to the resort activities. That is why we hate, and often refuse to stay at, resorts with any type of activity fee. I would rather wear some sort of wristband to show I am not allowed to use the games room, mini-putt or take part in activities than pay a weekly fee. Often we don't even use the pool since our children are grown and don't usually travel with us. I don't mind paying a small ($10-20.) weekly wi-fi fee to be able to access the internet in our unit but that isn't a necessity.

The Monday morning doughnuts and coffee at Inverness by the Sea was a hoot. We did not go the first couple of years a boy did we miss out! Angela, who was the on-site property manager, would welcome the guest and would give a history of Galveston Island, a map of attractions that were worthwhile and talked about restaurants where the "locals" would go. Returning guest would also share their experiences. We will miss Inverness by the Sea but it really helped us love the island even more.

It varies for us. Generally if there is a fee we skip it (especially since our kids are now in college). However, one of our family highlights was some contest where we ended up in a battle smearing whipped cream on my dad's head. Also the magic show at Wyndham SeaWatch was great!

Except for wine tasting we do not participate in Resort Activities.

It's almost (but not quite) a deal breaker if the condo doesn't have a pool as I'm a swimmer who likes to swim every day. We especially like to participate in food related activities, if they're free or cheap. I find that Marriott's have some of the best activities. We also enjoy going to "Breakfast with the Stars" when we stay at Stormy Point Village in Branson or a dinner with entertainment by local performers when we stay at the Suites at Fall Creek in Branson. Those activities give you a sample of many of the shows in Branson, so it's easier to decide which ones we might like to see.
