Acer Aspire One on Costco Website

I am looking at purchasing a netbook computer. Is the Acer Aspire One that is currently on the Costco website for $379.99 the one that everyone seems to be recommending feature wise?

I don't know which one you are referring to. If it's the 6-cell version and battery life is your primary concern, then it might be a reasonable choice.

I like the Asus EEEPC 901 it has a solid state 16G drive, bluetooth, webcam... It touts up to 8.5 hours of battery life.

There have been several threads on netbooks since they appeared about a year ago. The Acer you refer to is one of them. There it an article in this month's 'Smart Money' mag about them, mentioning an HP, and a Lenovo also. There are several being introduced at CES and will be on shelves fairly soon. You may want to wait and see how the mini-computer rush ends up. It'll be interesting to see who's left standing and I wouldn't be surprised if it's Lenovo.

I happen to have an ASUS 701, like it even with it's shortcomings, but have no vested interest in any of 'em.

I looked at the model on costco.com. What do you think the feature differences are? The only thing I noticed is that they include a USB mouse.

amazon.com has the same thing (without the usb mouse) with free shipping for $370 and change, via buy.com. costco, of course, has a much better return policy.

The only differences in Intel Atom/hard-drive based netbooks with Win XP (besides build quality, etc) is the amount of included memory, the size of the hard drive, and in this case, the battery. Some are 8.9" like the Acer, and some, like the Lenovo S10 are 10".

HSN has the 6 cell Acer mini laptop on special today. Is the only difference between the hsn one and the amazon on - the included software?

I bought the one from HSN yesterdays special value. I also have to carry a heavy work laptop home and have 3 laptops at home (all with issues though).
I'm keeping the new mini one - for me only. THe kids are rough on the computers - which is why I have 3 others with issues. I did see them advertised cheaper though, but thought I'd use some of the software included, and like their return policy.

With that said, I have always been a Dell fan. But the Acer is cheaper and the review seem good.

Nope. If anything, they are faster because of smaller screen to 'paint'. Which brings up the point that my Asus eee doesn't have a dial-up modem, just ethernet input or wireless.

No, not really. A netbook is suitable for web browsing, email and you can even run things like office, but you wouldn't buy one to run an application like Photoshop or expect to do any serious gaming on it.

I've been using mine with an external keyboard, mouse and monitor at home as my main computer, at least until I get my main computer back from a repair. It works fine. It's a slower single core CPU, so it is slower than my other full-size notebook, which has a faster dual core processor with a much larger cache, and faster components, but it's very adequate for internet, email, etc.

I was at walmart today and decided to purchase the one for $348. I called HSN to cancel the todays special value. It appears the only difference is this one has 120 Hard drive and HSN had 160. Also HSN had more software included & mouse. I figured I have a ton of software on my other laptops that maybe I can transfer.

I like the one I just got. Have to get used to typing on the smaller keys.

Love the weight of it. The kids haven't noticed I'm on a computer, they think on on the dvd player.

We just received the 160GB with 6-cell battery from Costco today. Paid $379.99. I like the 90-day return policy, free technical support from Costco Concierge and double manufacturer's warranty (2 years).

I thought the store sign said 6 cell - but I'm seeing my battery is 50% left with 59 mins - so I think it is a 3 cell. figures I used a pen to open the box, and the pen exploded on the box. Probably walmart won't want to take it back - because of the ink on the box. anyone know how to get ink off the box?

does castco always double the warranty? Yours is a much better deal. did you get it on line?
