At the outset, let me apologize if there there is an FAQ/sticky which deals with this....if there is one I have not been able to find it......so please bear with me.

I wanted to tap into the immense knowledge base that is the TUG bbs. I am in the process of renting my TS unit through the TUG marketplace :D My renter though, does not have a PayPal account, and would prefer to pay me directly by credit card (renter has MC, although I doubt that it matters it is Visa or MC). I am open to this proposition. However, I do not know how to set up a mechanism to accept a credit card payment - is this more pain that it is worth? Renter is awesome, very reasonable and responsive (based on my emails) and is willing to defray the costs associated with accepting cc payments. We are following to a T the SOP outlined by the TUG-veterans for a smooth transaction.

Thanks very much, in advance

I would only take via paypal. For you to set up on your own it would be at more of a cost than the percentage that paypal takes. It also protects the buyer from any sort of credit card fraud. I would not just give my credit card info to someone over the internet. That is if it was really my credit card. KWIM!

Agree - setting up a PayPal account is easier for them - than an individual that rents out their TS in trying to set-up a way to accept credit cards.
If they are completely against - tell them to rent thru the resort which accepts credit cards - and when they find out it will double their rental cost - they will be back...

I get the credit card people ALL the time. I tell them to take out a CASH ADVANCE and go to the US Post Office and send me a Certified Letter/Return Receipt with a US Post Office Money Order along with the sign contract.

No PAYPAY on their part DOES NOT mean I have to jump through hoops.

PS I am right now MESSING with a college kid who sent me money via WESTERN UNION 10 days ago ... be sure to get their Name spelled exactly like they scribbled it and the MONEY TRANSFER CONTROL NUMBER. If it ainted RIGHT this time, there is going to be a happy lawyer in NYC who will get the Spring Break Week for himself and his 20 yo son.;)

I don't think there is a requirement for the renter to setup a paypal account to pay via credit card at paypal. Just send them an invoice via paypal and the link they get via email should permit them to pay via credit card, though of course it will encourage them to setup an account.

I seem to recall that there's a dollar limit above which they have to set up an account?

send a pay pal invoice, Your customer will have a choice of paying via their pay pal account or a credit card.

If they use a credit card, you may have to wait a day or two to get your money

Paypal will only let them make a small payment without setting up an account. As I recall the limit is around $2,000? Even if you split it up, if the 2nd payment puts them over $2,000, it will trigger a freeze, and they will have to open an acct.

It is VERY easy to set up a Paypal Acct. But it is cost prohibitive for you to accept credit cards in another way.

Google Checkout will also work. Not sure about limits.

I own a credit card processing company. It makes no sense (equipment costs, set up fees, annual fees, monthly fixed costs, PCI, and actual transaction processing fees) for you to open a merchant account to accept one transaction. I agree with the other posters that Google Checkout, Paypal, or customers cash advance are your best options.

Thanks all. The PayPal invoice worked out well. The transaction has not triggered the limit. I also did not see one in the FAQ there.
