I posed this question to a VOA late last week and will be following up with my assigned VOA next week when he returns my email/call. In the meantime, I would appreciate any insights Marriott owners may have on this topic.
The situation I asked about is as follows:
- My father-in-law bought a developer week over 20 years ago.
- He has not enrolled his week into the DC program as he isn't interested.
- If we inherit the week at some point in the future, I understand all owner benefits should transfer.
- I asked: Once inherited, can we enroll this week in the DC program? (As a side note, we have already enrolled a week we own, but that probably isn't relevant).
The VOA I spoke with said that the week would not be eligible for the DC program unless my father-in-law had already enrolled it. If he hadn't, it would be considered an external week and therefore, not eligible for the program. I thought this was odd, since Marriott always said you can will the week to your kids and all owner benefits would transfer to them. Apparently participating in the DC program is not considered to be a benefit that would transfer in this situation.
I am hoping the VOA I spoke with is not correct in this situation. I will let you know what I learn from my VOA. In the meantime, what are your thoughts? Thanks.
