I posed this question to a VOA late last week and will be following up with my assigned VOA next week when he returns my email/call. In the meantime, I would appreciate any insights Marriott owners may have on this topic.

The situation I asked about is as follows:
- My father-in-law bought a developer week over 20 years ago.
- He has not enrolled his week into the DC program as he isn't interested.
- If we inherit the week at some point in the future, I understand all owner benefits should transfer.
- I asked: Once inherited, can we enroll this week in the DC program? (As a side note, we have already enrolled a week we own, but that probably isn't relevant).

The VOA I spoke with said that the week would not be eligible for the DC program unless my father-in-law had already enrolled it. If he hadn't, it would be considered an external week and therefore, not eligible for the program. I thought this was odd, since Marriott always said you can will the week to your kids and all owner benefits would transfer to them. Apparently participating in the DC program is not considered to be a benefit that would transfer in this situation.

I am hoping the VOA I spoke with is not correct in this situation. I will let you know what I learn from my VOA. In the meantime, what are your thoughts? Thanks.

Basically they don't know the answer and don't have any experience with it. They made up an answer based on their assumptions. I don't see why this wouldn't be permitted to be enrolled. You may want to pose this question to a customer advocate instead of a regular VOA.

Dioxide, I suspect you are correct since the program is still relatively new. Great idea to follow up with an owner advocate. I will still see what my VOA says since I started the process with him. Thanks.

If you have resorts outside of the Marriott family why would you want to join the DC program anyways?

My weeks are deeded in my name with one of my kids so they technically are co owners in rights of survivorship. When I did this, of course, Marriott resorts were worth something.

An inherited week that was purchased from the developer (as in your example) can be enrolled in the DC program. The VOA you spoke to was wrong. I think dioxide is right that the VOA probably did not know and just made up an answer.

My parents had a resale week purchased many years ago and we were told that if they enrolled in the DC then we could transfer it to a family member and it would stay in the DC. If they did not enroll, we would never be able to enroll in DC.

The OP asked about an inherited developer week. You got an accurate answer concerning the transfer of a resale week.

My VOA has been too busy to respond to my question. How do I reach a customer advocate, so I can get an answer to my question? With the new announcment regarding the increase of the enrollment fee, I would like to try to address this issue soon. Thanks.
