As I have mentioned in the past, the “golden age” of award travel is clearly closing, at least at the big 3 domestic airlines. The most recent example is American who have started charging some really wild number of miles, like 400000+ for some trips in business class.

I got the + side of the dynamic with one way economy seats to Rome for 20k miles for next year. Cannot change dates unlike 30k award.
