I have read lots of advice as to what room to request...but saw nothing on whether to request the old or newer building. I always lean towards new but anyone been there recently and have a recommendation?

Thanks.

I'd suggest the newer building with a room overlooking the pool. It's very quiet there.

Thanks Robert. How loud is the music at Fire & Ice at night...can you hear it from the units? I see the newer building looks to be right across the courtyard from it. I would imagine in the winter with everything shut tight noises don't carry as far!

Both Are Nice

I stayed in phase 1 last year, and phase 2 this year. Both were very nice.

I agree that a view of the pool is the way to go. I didn't hear any noise from Fire & Ice.

We stayed in phase 3 across the pool from Fire & Ice last August when the place was full and never heard any noise from the restaurant or pool. Very quiet.

I did not even know there was a phase 3!!! I thought Phase 1 was the large "S" shaped building and Phase 2 was the smaller building accross from Fire & Ice in Phase 1 building.

Here is a map (I thought it was the latest one)...where is Phase 3? Is it the "missing" section on bottom left?

Yes And No

Lawler, did you trade Lahaina for Timber Lodge?

Terry

We did trade our lock-off studio for a summer week at Timber Lodge. But then I got sick so we traded that week for a week at Phoenix (Desert Springs - which we loved).

I purchased my December 6 week at Timber Lodge as a Getaway on Interval. The cost for the whole week was only $299 (a one-bedroom, with full kitchen/fireplace, etc.)

This year we are going to use our full unit at MOC in January (I can't get the wife to let me trade the lock-off).

It might not be phase 3, but is the new section. I think it was in building C. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool and was located across the pool from Fire & Ice.

Yes... and hopefully, they will add BBQs at least that is what they promised last time we were there.

I believe this is Phase 2 as the map shows in the post below.

Is the map still accurate? Is there a building in the bottom left of the map? Have they started construction yet....there isnt a hole in the ground is there?

I haven't been there in a while. When were there last they just opened Phase 2. And, there was fencing around the area where phase 3 was suppose to go. Maybe somebody who has been there more recently would know. Hopefully, they didn't stop construction but who knows. Tahoe isn't doing that great during the non-peak times per a friend that lives there year round. He is out of a job and works in Reno but commutes.

We were there this past July. The 'blank' section on the lower left of the map has now been filled in with condos, so the construction is done.

And as for the BBQ's...we were also told in 2007 that they would be adding BBQ's in 2008. I specifically addressed this when we checked in this summer and was told that BBQ's could NOT be added. This was not a Marriott decision but a change in the local fire code.

OK, if I've done this right, attached should a photo from our trip last July. This is the view we had from our 5th floor 2BR unit looking over the pool. As you can see, all construction is now complete.

This was a great condo as we were just 2 doors from the elevator (the entry to the bldg. is right across from Fire and Ice) so it made for quick in and outs. Our son and family were in a 1BR literally 2 floors above Fire and Ice and noise was never an issue for either of us.

If you look close you can see the top floor of the hotel across the street from Timberlodge (to the north) with a Casino above and behind it.

A portion of phase 1 is what faces the Embassy (the units the furthest from, and parallel to the gondolas), with Phase 3 being the wing that essentially connects phase 1 and phase 2. The only units that could face the Embassy would therefore be in phase 1. However, on our stay in July our daughter and husband joined us for a couple of nights and we got a regular lock-off 'hotel room' for a couple of nights for them (non-pool side). It was in phase 3, almost to the end of the street toward the Embassy. The view was, well, at least they spent most of their time in our 'wonderful' unit.

Great pic Steve! It looks from your picture you were in Phase 2...is that right? I left a VM message with the Rooms Coordinator and have not heard back. We will be in a 1BR (will keep calling II to see if a 2BR comes available). This is what I am going to ask for based on recommendations here:

Phase 2 or 3 (love those flat screens and newer is always better!)
Fourth floor overlooking the pool (looks like 5th floor has restricted ceilings)
Ask for the units not facing the transportation center or road (although Phase 2 and 3 may fit both these criteria)

One more question....how cumbersome is it to get from the entrance to the Marriott to Phases 2 & 3? Also how effricient is the ski valet at Timber Lodge...we stayed at the Westin Whister last January and the valet was AWESOME!!!!

Thanks!

Yes, we were in phase II this past summer, but we were in a pool view in phase I the year before and it was nice also.

Keep in mind that the buildings have a different number of floors. So it is best to simply exclude any 'top floor' unit in your request instead of naming a specific floor. I would also recommend excluding the bottom floor in your request as well since in some instances you could have a pool view but also have a sidewalk literally right outside your windows with lots of foot traffic! And I would not feel bad about calling back again (and again, and again) until you get through instead of waiting for a call back re placing your request.

Although some units in Phase II and phase III are indeed a long way from the entrance (which can be awkward with luggage, groceries, etc.), so are some of the units at the other end of the pool in phase I (VERY long halls!!). What you could do if you get a 'back unit' in II or III is check in, get your key, then park on the back road (Bellamy) and use the elevator back there to 'stock' your unit. Then go back up front to have your car valet parked.

We've only stayed there in the summer so cannot address the ski related questions.

I thought it was phase 3 we stayed in last summer - it was the newest section overlooking the pool and it was very nice. Getting to it is no problem and in fact it's easier to get to the casinos in that you can take the elevator at the end of phase 3 down to the ground floor and go out the back gate, which is only a block to the casinos as opposed to going out the main lobby.
