Anyone use a Roomba vaccum? We have an old 400 series Roomba which we bought around 2004. We didn't use it much and the battery eventually died.

About two years ago my DH bought a new battery but we still didn't use much because we have housekeepers. So it sat.

Now that our housekeepers are gone with Covid restrictions, we started to use the Roomba. Wow, how I like the Roomba! We pick a room or two every day and let it go. Although it is a pain to clean after every use, I am amazed by how much cat fur it picks up and how well it cleans under couches and beds to eliminate dust bunnies. It also does a great job on tile floors.

I am now considering another Roomba and saving the money we pay for housekeepers since we are now empty nesters. I am tempted by the new 900 series with self-cleaning and large storage but $900 is a bit steep. So I am also considering an older used model on Ebay instead.

Anyone use and like Roombas? Which model would you recommend?

We followed Consumer Report’s “best of“ a couple years ago and bought an Ecovac Deebot. It was said to be shorter than Roombas to go under furniture. It’s done a good job but will get stuck under some furniture and runs up on my dining room table’s sloped legs and churns away on the wood stuck there. So this year, Consumer Report, or some review site, recommended Eufy. Said it was the shortest. So I bought one on a Amazon Black Friday special. It gets stuck even more than Ecovac. I can’t leave either of them alone for long. I guess when it comes to being short enough for going under furniture it’s “be careful of what you wish for.“ I put the Eufy upstairs where my beds are higher and I use it less.

Interesting @Glynda that they get stuck. We have not experienced this with our Roomba. We put 1 inch blocks under our coffee table so it would travel underneath.

Dog hair killed our last Roomba, but now, no dog.
So we got a Shark robot. It got stuck under our bed.
Otherwise, it works fine.

We have been through 5 roombas and 1 bobsweep pet hair vacuum. The older roombas were not great but did do the job. The bobsweep was very powerful but noisy and would get stuck constantly. We again purchased the newer 985 roomba from costco. It does not have the self cleaning feature but with 4 long hair cats, we still must clean the brushes daily so emptying the dirt bin was not an issue. This is the BEST roomba ever! It has a sensor and cleans room to room daily and will go back to recharge and then continue throughout the house. If the bin fills, it returns home and we get a message on our phone to clean the bin and then it goes on it's way again until it has gone through all of the rooms. Still expensive at $500.

Love my roombas. When I added a second one I just bought whichever one Costco was selling at the time. I set the downstairs one to run at night and it goes for 2 hours. Love waking up to a clean floor and it’s a joy to empty out all the dirt I couldn’t see.

I wish there were a version that could dust shelves too. It’s my least favorite chore, so perhaps I don’t do it as often as I should.

Both got stuck under our sofas and chairs. From the sides, half sticks out from under the sofa. From the front and back, they can no longer be seen but get stuck about half way under (with no one sitting on the furniture). The Ecovac Deebot's specs were shorter than Zoombas at the time I bought it and Eufy specs were shorter than the Ecovac. I'd hoped they were short enough to go under but since they aren't, I'd rather they not even try to go under those. I really don't want to put blocks under anything.

I have a Shark robot vac. My dog actually hates it! We never use it because she barks at it like crazy! I’ll post a video if I can find it.

Mine don't get stuck under the beds but our bed is adjustable and requires electrical cords which are under it and get drug out by the vac unless I drag them out and prop them up.
