Are these types of Condom Vending machines common in Germany?

I have not seen many condom vending machines in my lifetime, but then again that may be due to my lifestyle and marital status.

However I am curious as to why this particular vending machine appears to be outdoors in a public place. Looks like a park like setting.

Is this a common practice in Germany?

I would think explosives that can blow up such a machine cost a bit more than condoms? Maybe they were trying to steal cash?

But then, its been awhile since I last used explosives or condoms.

See these every once in a while in a gas station or convenience store restroom. Not generally out in the open like the one depicted in the photograph.

Could be a more relaxed feeling towards vending there. Remembering back 50 years ago as a GI in Germany, there were vending machines near a public park/promenade alongside a river that flows through the city vending wine, in bottles, at reasonable prices. When picnicking with a fraulein, I'd send a kid with a few coins to retrieve a bottle of the local Riesling. There were no age restrictions. I would not be surprised to find condoms being sold where they might be needed on short notice.

Now folks, that post is the definition of "epic." Or is that phrase now passe?

The article I read said he was trying to get the money. It just doesn't make sense he would be trying to steal the condoms.
