What a charming and touching story. I am going to get a Valentine's Day card for my father-in-law to sign. Then Major Bill White will have a card from a 100-year-old Canadian Army corporal who served in Normandy and through Belgium and the Netherlands to Germany in WWII.

For his 100th birthday, my FIL got many, many, personal notes of congratulation, including from The Queen and the Prime Minister. He also got a personal visit from the Corps Sergeant-Major of his regiment and a personal phone call from the Brigadier-General who is the honourary commandant. I know he was touched and tickled pink by all the attention.

I think he will enjoy the idea of paying it forward and doing the same for a former ally and comrade-in-arms. Both amongst the last of the Great Generation. May they both keep breathing for a while yet! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
