I've used Linux Mint with Cinnamon for at least a decade, it is very similar to Windows, and every program is FREE! Do you need Microsoft Office? LibreOffice does everything MSO does FOR FREE! Not to mention, Linux will run on everything made since 2000, but a brand new computer that was just released may take a few weeks to gain support. The only thing Linux does not do is run iTunes. People try to use WINE or other programs to get it to work, but it's tedious and fails every time Apple releases a new version.

Linux Mint is a superior Ubuntu release because it includes the multimedia drivers which are tricky to locate, compile and install if you are not a teckie.
