There is a lot of growing evidence that COVID-19 is much more widely spread than previously thought. Mass General Hospital did a random "Man on the street" sampling and found nearly 50% were C19 exposed and asymptomatic. This report for India indicates 80%. It could be 50/50 that we have been exposed and had minimal or no symptoms. Hopefully they will identify some marker other than Chronic Illness that will show if someone is susceptible or not

Where did the health minister get his analysis, he said “On the basis of worldwide analysis”. Can you link the Mass General Hospital info ? Curious where they got their test subjects.

If you look at the navy ship data for the Roosevelt ship, 60% of the crew that were infected had no symptoms. They are all fit and 40 and under. Only 1 died and 4 more were hospitalized out of 600+. I'm personally planning on just letting myself get infected when the schools open back up (I'm a teacher). I'm taking this summer to get down to 140 lbs by exercising and eating better so I can fight it off as best I can. The reason NOLA has a high fatality rate compared to other cities is because of how unhealthy the people who live there are. I suggest everyone who is overweight to do the same.

I believe the severity of the disease depends on initial viral load. I read that you can get the disease with just a few hundred particles vs a few thousand with other viruses.

I'm thinking a lot of people have been infected by contact with a surface (low viral load) and stay asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and are spreading it to other people and those people are also initially getting infected with a low viral load. This initial infection amount is vital because it takes a certain amount of time for your body to developed an immune response.

If your initial contact with the virus is low, you will have a much lower viral load once your body develops an immune response vs someone exposed to a higher viral load. I think this is why front line workers have been getting a more severe version of the disease. A virus divides exponentially, so the amount of viral particles in your body can be thousands/millions of times higher depending on the initial amount of particles you were exposed to.

I think over time most people will become immune. The social distancing helps keep the initial viral load low, so your body has enough time to identify the foreign antigen and learn to develop antibodies before the virus can wreck havoc. If you don't keep your distance and get full exposure to a symptomatic person, that's where I think the young and healthy run into problems more frequently. The 5 year old that died in Michigan was the child of 2 frontline workers. Her initial viral load was probably much higher than most other healthy 5 year old girls who are exposed to the virus.

I support your goals and also recommend seeing a Doctor/Nutritionist and eating whole grains and fresh organic farmed veggies and fish/lean meats.

I'm not spending 100s of dollars to lose 25 pounds at 30 years old. You don't have to have a degree in medicine/nutrition to understand the basics of how to lose a few pounds lol.

Pollan says everything he's learned about food and health can be summed up in seven words: "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants." ... "Eat food" means to eat real food -- vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and, yes, fish and meat -- and to avoid what Pollan calls "edible food-like substances.
As an RD this pretty much is accurate. Good on you for improving your health as well!! I tell clients exercise (cardio, weight training to keep muscle, yoga or something to keep flexibility) is the key to keeping youth :)

Very likely-and repeated exposure to high viral loads. I'd bet a onetime high viral load dose in a person normally able to fight off infections wouldn't necessarily be severely ill either, or if is they recover.

Love Michael Pollans book Food Rules. Really makes you think what you are eating yet in a simple, easy read version.

Thanks for recommending this book. I just purchased the Kindle version. I could use some helpful reading right now. This quarantine is hard on my food and exercise habits.

however about 10 years ago - I started the - “no food from gas stations diet”
and lost about 20 pounds . As a sales rep in my car everyday - it worked .
