Are the 5-night travel packages good during times when hotels have peak rates in effect? Looking to book 5 nights at a category 6 hotel in Manhattan and the cost is 240,000 points for the 5 nights due to peak pricing. If I can use a travel package it would only cost me an additional 75,000 points for 50k airlines miles if I am figuring it out correctly.

Travel packages work off the base rate - no penalty for peak nor bonus for off-peak.

Thus, it's ideal if you have one to use them during peak pricing times!

Thanks, and if I am correct you have to call Marriott VCacation Club owner services to book the package? Also, during the same phone call can they book the hotel for you?

I just procured one (Cat 6 100K miles) yesterday through Marriott Bonvoy Rewards phone line. I did not book the hotel I just ordered it so as to receive the airline miles for an upcoming trip. I was told I cannot upgrade the package but can extend it one time if needed.

I just had a bad experience in booking a 5 night cert/airline miles package. MVCI rep said the room I wanted to use the cert for was available and for the dates I wanted, so I went ahead. She debited the 430K points and took my airline FF information. She said she would get a Marriott rep on the phone to book the nights. Instead, she just transferred me to Marriott, where they told me that they didn't actually have the room available (except I could get a 2 night suite for almost 1M points). Reversing the transaction has been a lot of wasted time (case numbers and escalations -- not done yet). Some of this may because you have to get the 5 might awards from MVCI, not Marriott. My advice would be to book the room first, and have a confirmation number, before you get the certificate. Only Marriott can make Titanium seem more like "Tin"!

Sadly, I've had that fail as well. I booked 5 nights with points then tried to assign the 5 night cert I had bought to the reservation. In between the time the CSR cancelled my points reservation and tried to apply the 5 night cert three of the nights were gone.

I did find another date at the same Marriott that worked and got the 5 night cert attached...but the MRPs that I used to reserve the room in the first place went missing. It took a lot of time and effort to get them restored. Best of all the cert number that was attached to the reservation wasn't the right one. Thankfully, the reservation was honored.

No kidding. Don't get me started on the uselessness of 'Suite night awards'. I've had them disappear, I've had them ignored in a Sheraton with lots of empty suites, and of the 12 reservations I have upcoming this year I can only kinda/sorta use them at one. Bleeech.

I got really sour on suite night rewards once I realized a property can simply ignore the request even if there is plenty of availability. It was already bad enough that they started blocking suites that were too many steps above the room booked. With all the restrictions and blatant disregard in honoring them they should remove the expiration dates. What is the point in having them expire anyway?
