We have a 5 night Category 5 Marriott package. We were thinking of going to a beach in North Carolina in early August or mid October. There are three hotels we are looking at. One is Towne Place Suites (Category 4) in Kill Devil Hills in the outer bank. The other two are in or near Wilmington: Courtyard Downtown/Historic and Courtyard Wrightsville Beach (both are Category 5)

Do you have any suggestions about which place and hotel we should choose.

Thank you.

I would not stay at the Wrightsville Beach one. It isn't on the beach. The other two are good choices. The one in Wilmington is right in the downtown by the river. Great choice of night life and restaurants within walking distance. The one on OBX is a suites hotel so you get a kitchen, which for me, is a big plus when going to the beach. It is directly across the road from the beach and the road is 25 mpg and two lanes (route 12). Again it is within walking distance to restaurants, but there are 100s of them within a 10 to 15 minute drive either north or south. Hotel is a year old. If you want downtown historic stuff go to Wilmington, if you want a beach vacation go to OBX.

concur. For Wilmington, I go in Oct, unless you want to swim at beach (which is a bit of a drive). There's a Courtyard at Carolina Beach, as well. Aug. will be hot and humid--so I'd want to be right at the beach in Kills Devil Hills or at Carolina Beach, not in Wilmington. The weather in Oct is lovely. Oct is still pleasant to walk, sit, etc. at the beach. I don't know how much stuff closes down after tourist season in Kill Devil Hills.
If you want "the beach," definitely Kill Devil Hills or Carolina Beach.
