From the cruise ship is one possible source, but if you read the article there is a S American variation that can spread person to person. The Europe and N American versions don't seem to do that.
They are trying to work out what strain and therefore what origin the virus could be from. Scary stuff.

There has been at least one guy in our area that caught hantavirus and died. He was in his mid 30's living 45 miles away. He was a police officer and no one knows where or how he caught it.
From what I read there is fairly long incubation period for hantavirus so it's possible the cruise passengers were exposed on land at one of the stops.

Two more Hantavirus cases:
- The Spanish woman was briefly on the plane with infected passenger who later died.
- The British man was a passenger on the Dutch-flagged ship.

Good article. Sitting behind an infected person on an airplane and catching hantavirus is just so random, imo. Its virtually impossible but things must have lined up just right,
"CNN cites unnamed health officials in reporting the estimated 17 Americans onboard the cruise ship will be escorted on a charter flight and taken to the National Quarantine Unit, a federally funded quarantine facility in Omaha."
The problem is people disembarked before they were sent to the Canary Islands. There are 3 states who are monitoring people: Georgia, California and Arizona. They all had to take planes to get home, so cases may rise. Feels like a bad movie from 2020.
MADRID — Spanish authorities said Friday a woman had been tested for suspected hantavirus after travelling on the same flight as a Dutch woman who stayed on the MV Hondius cruise ship and later died from the virus.
