Hi I’m new to this group. Went to a presentation today. We have a smaller package of 8k pts in Tuscany Orlando that is paid off for every other year. Ended up moving/pressured to an every year 11k pts pkg transferred to Hawaii. Sales reps mentioned the maintained costs of FL going up because of the Hurricanes which is believable.

I’m have second thoughts about this upgrade. We have had good success with HVC after my wife became a pro at the reservations. However I’m not sure if I want the annual commitment to vacation with HVC, plus the cost is seeming more expensive now than I initially thought after digging into the math further. Do I still have 10 days to rescind the “upgraded” contract? Thank you and would appreciate any guidance. I just found this site and am realizing there is a lot I was not aware of yet.

You will hear a resounding chorus of replies throughout the day all saying the same thing: RESCIND

You have not indicated what price you have paid, but it is guaranteed to be considerably more than what you can purchase the same product for at resale. The HVC experts can pitch in and tell you more about the resale value on what you purchased.

The fact that you felt pressured and are now have second thoughts is answer enough. Regardless of what the sales weasel told you, that same deal is available tomorrow and next week. You can rescind today and buy next month if you decide that it represents good value after all. You cannot rescind next month.

The fact that your wife is a Pro at the HVC system suggests that you may be a candidate for something that suits your needs at resale. Stick around - read and learn - learn and read some more - ask questions - become a TUG member for $15. After you understand the various systems better, and resale costs, you may be a candidate to buy a resale unit for a lot less than what you bought yesterday.

Look at how much you are saving. Congratulations for trusting your instincts. Follow the rescind instructions to a tee. Mail it first class mail and certified mail with a receipt.

You should absolutely 100 percent rescind immediately. If for no other reason then, if you don’t rescind now, you will lose the ability to rescind forever, whereas if you rescind and then decide later on that you actually do want to buy this from the developer instead of resale (you won’t), then this deal will always be available, I guarantee it.

Thank you all. I did find the recission documentation and we are mailing tomorrow. The current directions state within 5 days. I'm not sure if that is due to it being an "upgrade" or if they have changed their policies. I figured I would let everyone know in case this helps someone down the road. Thanks again for the support.

I understood Florida law to require a 10 day rescission window.

Does it make any difference where the OP's upgrade was to a HI points contract? Signed in Florida for a HI property?

Well we signed the upgrade in Myrtle Beach so it’s possible the SC law is only 5 days. I could see that being a difference. This is going out in the mail today and I’ll get proof as well. I’m also going to email them letting them know that this is in the mail and I took pictures of the documents that I copied and am sending back. I think I have all my bases covered. Can’t thank you all enough.

As stated Rescind first because you only have a few days. That deal will always be there if you research and change your mind later

If HGVC is interesting, then come back to TUG to research after rescinding. We can assist. If you are interested in HGVC, then check out the HGVC forum. Tuscany resales are being given away, but you may want a better resale location such as Vegas for more efficient cost per point every year which pays off in the long term. Points are points.

Resale when ready to buy

We love our timeshares and get outsized value, but you need to know what is best for your situation before you jump into this.
