I am at Ko'Olina reading the morning paper.

For all of February the interisland fare on ALL airlines will be $28 between HNL and Maui. Mokulele Air started the fare war and all other airlines are matching the fare. Tickets must be purchased by 2/14 and used by 2/28

Bummer. I just bought tickets about a week ago using Hawiaan air and the fee was $59 one way and $61 the other. It never fails!

The Hawaiian economy is in the tank.
The swap meet vendors cannot earn the $75 a day they need to keep a booth. Around 200 of the 700 have left.
Hotel prices have plummeted and airfares are way down.

Food prices are WAY up.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

I guess if food prices are up, the restaurants will be unable to offer specials to lure diners, so restaurants will be in worse shape than much of the rest of the economy.

There a few restaurant deals

The Beach Bar at Ko'olina upped its prices significantly. Last year we had to wait for a table. This year there are plenty of empty tables. Guests are cooking more.

I think the benefits of timeshares, with the availablility of a kitchen, will dawn on the general public soon. Even in better economic times we loved the convenience and savings of having a kitchen, but now that we're in a recession, being able to enjoy an inexpensive meal "at home" is a huge help in keeping costs down.

We often rent our Maui week through the resort. I expect that timeshare rentals will continue to compete well with hotel room rates as consumers discover how much more space they get with a condo, and how much money they save being able to cook "at home."

Can someone remind me of the interisland airlines so I can go to their websites. Or is there one website where I can check them all?

Go! just announced a fare sale from HNL-KOA and Hawaiian matched the price. It is only good through the end of February and seats are limited.

$28 fare: Honolulu to Maui

So frustrating .... my four tickets from HNL to OGG were $320 PLUS 50,000 AMEX points for our MOC trip in July, 2009!!!!
:ignore:

Maybe I should cancel and rebook?

I thought the OP said that the deal was only through February? If your trip is in July- as is mine, then we can't take advantage of this.

I saw that after I submitted the post. I kinda figured there would not be any breaks for Summer flights which was why I booked in September last year. Also, we were needing four tickets with the best departure times and using the AMEX points were another issue. Let's just hope they don't drop fares in the future given the reduced price of oil.

That's a ridiculous price! Hawaiian Air one way fares between HNL and OGG are pricing out at $39 + taxes, for sample travel date of 7/11 and 7/12. To pay $320 + 50k AMEX points is a terrible deal. Unfortunately, if you booked already, the cancellation fees can be quite expensive.

If we need to fly between islands, we always book those separately.

I don't know your origination city or airline, but in the future note that some airlines (e.g. Delta) allow you to arrive in one city and then depart from another. For example, you can fly into HNL and out of OGG on the same RT ticket. That means you only need to buy a one-way ticket from HNL to OGG. No need to return to HNL.

That's $320 for four tix, or $80 each. If she meant r/t then it's a very good deal as now the cost seems to be $109 r/t.

Now here's a bad deal:
