28 Canadian Recipes You Really Need to Try

I can't believe Tyee or Spinger didn't make the list.

Bill

I'm 5th generation Canadian and have been in every province, but I have no idea what "Tyee" and "Spinger" even are!!!

You must be an East Coaster, lol. Tyee and Springer are King Salmon with Tyee being Campbell River salmon weighing over 30 pounds and Springer being a late spring to early summer King Salmon.

Another thing on the list is Saskatoon Berry which I think is just a June Berry.

Thanks for that. I love fish, and especially salmon, whether Atlantic or Pacific. I have eaten more than my share of it over the years, but I'm not a fisherman, so that distinction was unknown to me.

My mother was a Victoria girl, so I have cousins in BC and have spent much time there, but yes, I'm an easterner, in fact, a Maritimer by birth. We were stationed in PEI when I was born. I have spent most of my life in Ontario, but before my Dad retired from the RCAF we were posted to bases in PEI, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, and Germany.

Yes, Saskatoon berries are also known as Juneberries or serviceberries.

I've never been to Ontario yet. Niagara Falls is on my list so it's a maybe.

Well, if you come, you will be in the middle of butter tart and Beavertail country. Ontario even has an official butter tart "trail" with a guide to finding lots of boutique bakeries, each with their own version.

Feel free to enjoy a Bloody Caesar instead of a Bloody Mary, or a good craft beer. Another item I noticed that does not seem to be on the list is the peameal bacon sandwich, a Toronto classic. Visit the St. Lawrence Market to try one!
