Yes,
There are areas of Baltimore City that are infamous for its very high crime rate!

However,
Baltimore City offers plenty of things for residents and visitors to see and do
and has some top rated areas: Mount Vernon, the Inner Harbor, Fells Point
and don`t forget about One of America's foremost historic sites Fort McHenry.
Plus there is Oriole Park at Camden Yards and Baltimore Ravens M&T Stadium.

Sadly, most of Baltimore City is known for it's out of control crime rate.

Yes, they have tried to build tourist areas for the public however, wandering a block or two from those areas and you are taking your life into your own hands.

This is simply not the Baltimore City I was born and raised in. It's not just a spike in crime, Baltimore City is overrun with crime. I wouldn't even think of entering the city without being armed. Block after block of drug dealers and criminals lurking on every street corner. Complete neighborhoods of boarded up, dilapidated homes they can't give away. Even the politicians are criminals and continue to turn a blind eye to trash and garbage that overflows the streets.

Historic Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, Maryland is the third oldest urban park in America.
The neighborhood is a local historic district and on the national register of historic places.

Druid Hill Park: Then and Now

Druid Hill Park was established on the eve of the Civil War by Baltimore Mayor Thomas Swann on October 19, 1860. Much of the park started as part of “Auchentorlie,” (Torlie’s Fields) the estate of George Buchanan, one of the seven commissioners who founded Baltimore City in 1729.

Later renamed “Druid Hill,” the City of Baltimore purchased the property from then owner Lloyd Nicholas Rogers in 1860. The purchase was paid for thanks to a one-cent park tax on the nickel horse-car fares.

Established in 1876, the Baltimore Zoo received its early animal collections from prominent Baltimoreans who wanted to enhance the experience of nature in the park. The park is also home to the country’s second oldest Victorian glass conservatory, the Howard P Rawlings Conservatory and Botanic Gardens.

Your defense of Baltimore is admirable however, face facts, the city is cesspool of crime, poverty, political ineptness and corruption.

NEM is participating in this Smithsonian Magazine sponsored event that offers free admission to many museums around the country. Saturday, September 21, 2019.

Today we visited the National Electronics Museum located about 10 miles south of downtown Baltimore via BW Parkway and close to The Baltimore Washington Airport in Linthicum, Md.

The National Electronics Museum features an Educational Gallery with hands-on exhibits, displays of historical electronic equipment, including communications, radar, space and an Outside Gallery with Six Historic radar Antennas, spanning 75 years of radar development, plus free parking.

he National Electronics Museum was created by Westinghouse employees & founded in 1980.
In 1996, Northrop Grumman bought Westinghouse and continued support for museum efforts.

It was a new experience for us and we really enjoyed our first visit to NEM.
We highly recommend the museum, especially if you are interested in electronics.

Sunday, September 22, 2019 ~ The Last Day of Summer

~ A Beautiful Sunny Afternoon with Temps in the 80s ~

The Drive into the City

The Orioles were in town and since the game started at 1 PM today, we
took I-695 across the Francis Scott Key Bridge westbound towards Dundalk.

MTDA is in the process of removing the toll plaza`s and replacing them with
an ez-pass cashless toll collection system. One way Toll with ezpass is $3,

We took the Broening Hwy exit passed Amazon then left towards Canton,
North on Patterson Park Ave to Lombard Street and arrived around noon at
The Jewish Museum of Maryland Herbert Bearman Campus on Lloyd Street.

Smithsonian Day at The Jewish Museum of Maryland

The Museum campus includes the historic Lloyd Street and B’nai Israel Synagogues
and a modern museum building with changing exhibition galleries, a research library,
gift shop, and meeting rooms. Plus there is free parking directly across the street.

The area surrounding the Jewish Museum of Maryland was the center of immigrant Jewish life in Baltimore in the early 1900`s, but today only a few remnants of its Jewish past survive.

Voices of Lombard Street : A Century of Change in East Baltimore
tells the story of this historic neighborhood from then until now.

The exhibition galleries features stories about where people of different backgrounds lived, and worked and came together in the Jewish market neighborhood known as Lombard Street.

I can not count how many times our family visited and shopped along Corned Beef Row on West Lombard Street for lunch at The Original Attman`s New York Style Deli and at Stones Bakery for delicious pastries, birthday and anniversary cakes . Now all thats left of the historic Lombard Street neighborhood are a few stores and the Jewish Museum of Maryland Campus.

The Current Exhibit - Baltimore’s Local Grocer
Celebrating 75 Years of Eddie’s of Roland Park

Eddie`s was founded in 1944 by a young Jewish immigrant, Victor Cohen.
I remember shopping at the Eddie`s store on McElderry St in East Baltimore
near North East Market - just a few blocks from Johns Hopkins Hospital.

I am sorry to say, "We were a little disappointing in Eddie`s exhibit"
It was not what we expected and the display was not very interesting.

We did a self guided tour of the galleries and took a lot of pictures
Afterwards, we went outside to get a few photos of the buildings,

The Drive Back Home

By afternoon, it was starting to get hot and humid so,
we decided to drive thru downtown & head back home.

We took Russell Street pass the stadiums then south on the BWI Parkway.
We had a very nice day and really enjoyed our end of summer weekend..

Welcome to Baltimore, Hon
Saturday, October 19, 2019

The Baltimore Running Festival Marathon was held on Saturday, October 19, 2019. The race traveled through many diverse neighborhoods in the city, Historic Fells Point, Federal Hill, and finishing up in the Inner Harbor waterfront area.

Traffic in and around the city (before noon) caused delays. Road closures was in effect Saturday as thousands of athletes took to the streets of Baltimore.

#baltimoremuseumofindustry

We were able to back track up Light St to Fort Ave then left on Lawrence to Key Highway where we stopped at the Royal Farm Store for fries, before heading across the highway to The Baltimore Museum of Industry. We we able to get a really nice picture of the recently restored 1942 World War II Whirley Crane and a pic of the BMI campus and Domino Sugar.

Bill surprised me with a present from the BMI gift shop. A package of B&O paper plates with a printed scene from B&O Royal Blue china on heavy (22 pt), 10" paper. The interior scene is of Harper's Ferry, West Virginia 1939 and the rim of the plate features various train engines.

Its amazing how nice this area of Baltimore city is early in the day on the weekends. People out jogging, pushing baby strollers, sightseeing, visiting BMI, the Inner Harbor Waterfront, Federal Hill Park and Fort McHenry located in the Historic Locust Point neighborhood of Baltimore.

#mchenryrow

There is a nice Harris Teeters grocery store with pharmacy located in the McHenry Row neighborhood shopping distance at 1801 Whetstone Way Baltimore, Maryland 21230

*Free Parking in the garage.

McHenry Row has several restaurants, including Jimmy John's gourmet subs and World of Beer plus The residences at McHenry Row.

National and Local News stations on the internet and television
can update you about crime in the city and across the country.

Welcome to Maryland
HMS Queen Elizabeth

The Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth arrived in the Annapolis anchorage just south of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Tuesday. It is the first time a Royal Navy ship has visited Annapolis, Maryland in more than 60 years.

Go Downtown

Is Baltimore a good place to live and visit?

To be honest, Baltimore has its struggles just like any other large city, but it can also be a fantastic place to live and visit. Some of the most exciting tourist attractions to visit in the City of Baltimore are The world-famous Inner Harbor, Harbor Place, National Aquarium, BMI, Baltimore Museum of Industry, Oriole Park @ Camden Yards, Ravens Stadium & Mount Vernon Monument & Charles St.

Washington Monument at Mt Vernon Place

The 48th annual Downtown Partnership Monument Lighting will take place Thursday, December 5, from 5-8 pm in Mount Vernon Place. The Park will be transformed into a holiday village with food and community vendors, food trucks, bars, photos with Santa, and more.
