Does Continental/United ever off similar promotions?

Granted, this won't add miles to an existing balance with Mileage Plus. However, even if they don't offer this promotion directly, you could still benefit from this offer through the code share arrangement between USAA and UALA/CALA. Deposit the miles into your USAA frequent flier account, and book flights operated by United/Continental. At least you get their equipment/in-flight service/routing for your trip.

That is exactly what we do. We rarely fly on US Airways. Its usually international on a Star Alliance routing booked with our US Airways miles.

I haven't bought a travel package before, but am ready to. How would I go about getting the bonus miles if I do a travel package?

Well, you have to convert the miles portion to US Airways for the bonus miles. (Note: Some have posted that Travel Packages have not qualified for bonus miles on some programs. IN THE PAST, they always have on US Airways.)

You simply call Marriott Rewards. You need your US Airways DM #. Tell them the hotel category you want and the number of miles you want. The bonus is on top of those miles. (MVCI owners can get 5 or 7 night travel packages.)

Thanks!, is there a consensus on which travel Package is the best value? 5 vs 7 nights, cat 5 or higher, max # airline miles?

I would definately go for max# airline miles and 5 nights. You can just add a 6th or 7th night on points as a sep. reservation if you want to stay more time. The category is up to you. i went with 6 because of the number of properties going 5-6 this year. The three we are considering are all 6's.

Even if you book a category 5, I thought I read u can upgrade with extra pts to a higher category. Is the number of additional pts on par with what you pay extra with the travel reward? If yes then I would say book the lower category just in case u do stay a a lower category...

Yes, you can upgrade to a higher category. The amount is in line with the amount for the higher certificate or higher category travel package. The difference works out to be the same. The discount you get with the travel packages is on the air miles. They are valued at one for one conversion, where if you just use points to get straight miles, they are three to one.

In the past I have also downgraded to a lower hotel category when I was ready to use the award and received the difference in points, which were credited back into my account. To do this you have to call MR and change the travel package--simply reserving your room at the lower category hotel will not accomplish this automatically.

The best deal is max miles for cat 6 or higher, which gets you 1 airmile per Marriott point. I've been using the 5 night package since after getting used to seven days in a timeshare, I can only deal with a 5 nights in a hotel.

I'm accustomed to AA and Delta. How does using US Air differ with use?

MilePoint & FlyerTalk are great resources to learn more about airline programs.

Here are a few high-level things that you may want to know more about (the level of importance of course is dependent on what you're looking for).
*Award redemption fees
*US does not have one-way awards (like AA or UA)
*US is in StarAlliance vs SkyTeam (DL) & OneWorld (AA)

Thank you OutandAbout. I was thinking about getting the 120 with my next travel package since my daughter is now flying home using US Air. I could book her some tickets with that.

I'll check the other websites.

I know what it says with Star Alliance, but I want to make sure that we can use the miles on United. We are considering a European trip next summer. Plus, I think, we can extend the hotel certificate beyond a year. Right?

You can use them on United. Last year we used US Airways Miles for a ANA/United award to Thailand.

You can extend. Its not a published benefit, but I and others have. The extension is effective one year from the request--not a year tacked on.

Hi, I don't know if I might be reading too much into this (and I would be too late for 2012 unfortunately as I have already used a Marriott Rewards Travel Package for our flights to Thailand this year by transferring our points to miles with United and booking Thai Airways flights)
Does this mean I could have got the US Airways promotion, then used this to secure the same flights at the better rate?

Just made it on this one. Last week we opened US Air accts. and then I worked with MR rep to make transfer of points from DH's acct. to mine and order an award so miles would be in acct. in time for promo bonus. Checked my account this Wed. only to see nothing had been done. Called Thurs. and rep had find my transfer fax and process the entire transaction. Said it could take 48 hours to see miles in acct. I told him I was working on the promo and needed them before end of month. Since weekend was coming up I was eager to see miles in acct. before MR offices closed today. They were there. :)

Did you get the 50% bonus pts yet, or just the transfer pts for your Marriott pts? I was under the impression the bonus pts post a few wks later as i haven't received any bonus pts yet....

No bonus yet, just the initial miles before the deadline. No plans yet to use them. I can be patient.

Bonus points are taking longer than normal to post. (US guarantees 6-8 weeks.) They emailed me that it would be less, but after the end of the promo.
