It looks like RCI updated the website with each resort's 2009 ranking (ie. gold crown, silver crown, hospitality). Have you checked your resorts or the ones you frequent to see if anything significant has changed?

I recognize that some people don't give much credence to these but it's still a bit of a benchmark to use as a starting point. I've seen a couple of our inch up a ranking. There was another thread a couple months back about the Point at Poipu and it's drop in quality. It's now silver as opposed to gold.

How are these distinctions decided?

How are these distinctions decided? I asked at one resort and was told that they were decided based on feedback from users. I had always made the assumption that RCI independently rated them kind of like Triple A does for hotels.

It is a combination of required resort amenities and the average comment card scores in certain categories (checkin/checkout, resort hospitality, resort maintenance, unit maintenance, housekeeping) for the past calendar year that determines the status of a resort.

There used to be detailed information on the requirements for resort amenities (there were many acceptable combinations of amenities) on the TUG web site under "ADVICE", but the links to the files containing this information are now broken.

For silver and Hospitality, it is pure report card numbers.

For Gold, it is numbers combined by certain requirements, but given all of the alternatives built into the requirements, it comes down to mostly numbers.

I had a silver resort that was up graded to gold several years ago, and was told by the HOA that RCI had a rep. there for one week checking service ect.
