I have 2000 rescued pts from 2007 I need to use by Dec. Too busy- work this year. My only option may be to go RCI, which Ive never tried.
Cant even log into the website to see availability of resorts....
As an HGVC member, do I have to call HGVC and check on RCI resort availability? Also, will 2000 pts be enough to get me a 2 br. at RCI for 4-5 days?
Hopefully, some of you who have shared this experience can help me out.

thanks

AFAIK, you cannot deposit or use previously rescued points for RCI or other purposes.
The use of previously "rescued" points is restricted to HGVC reservations in the current year.
See pg.170, Member Guide. But do call HGVC to be sure.

... One reason why it is better to do a deposit of future-points than to rescue current-points.

Talent312 is right, you can use rescued point for ONLY HGVC resort reservations. If you can't use the 2000 points, or anyone else you know, use the points at an HGVC property you will LOSE them. There are no RCI deposit or Hilton Hotel reservation options available to you.

You can donate points, call HGVC for details.

Again this is the reason why Depositing is better than Rescuing, so plan ahead.

Im sorry - just checked an the 2000 pts are not rescued. For some reason they didnt allow me to roll them over-
are 2000 pts even enough for RCI?

That doesn't make sense unless they are bonus points and not regular points. Can you elaborate on what kind of points they are. If they are are just points there is NO reason why for the fee you cannot rescue them.

Any way as far as RCI goes it all depends on when you want to travel, what is the season color in RCI?

For an RCI nightly stay a 2BR goes for the following

Season, Weekday Points, Weekend (Fri Sat Sun)
Red, 480, 960
White, 340, 680
Blue, 240, 480

So if you want 2 Red Season weekend nights it would burn through nearly you whole points. However if you want a Monday checkin 4 nights stay it would be the same amount, 1920 points. So when mid day vs mid week, vs season will tell you how much it cost to go in RCI. (By the way the table for points is on pg 169 of the guide).

At this point, I would not trust the OP to know kind of points he's dealing with, until
he passes the "HGVC Terminology" class, or re-reads the Members Guide ~ 5 times.

benjaminb13:

If you are able to deposit your points, I think that would be to your advantage. You can still play with deposited points for two years. You would also have the option of combining the deposited points with current year HGVC points in either 2009 or 2010. If you are at the HGVC elite plus level, you can do a same year conversion to HHonors.

I see from your profile that you are in both HGVC and Hyatt. The rules for these clubs are certainly different. (Sometimes I get confused between HHonors, Marriot Rewards, and Starwood Preferred.) If there is any further confusion, you may wish to call a HGVC representative to determine what you may or may not do. Talent's advice to review the manual is good advice.

And if they ARE bonus points, as several of us suspect, you should be able to convert them to HHonors points before they expire.

the extra 2000 points were an oversupply that had to do with a Vegas purchase I did last year-some reason they cant be rolled over and they are not marked as rescue points.

As we speculated, they sound like some sort of Bonus points.

Ill probably be unable to use it this year- I guess RCI is the only option for me-

If your Bonus points expire on 12/31/08, you may still be out of luck in using them for reservations in 2009. But do call HGVC for information. I could be wrong.
