There are anti-parasitic drugs that are FDA approved that seem to kill covid 19. Hydroxchloroquine is currently being used for treatment of covid 19 with doctors and patients reporting good results. Another anti-parasitic drug that is FDA approved is Ivermectin. Ivermectin is used mostly to treat animals for worms. In humans it is used to kill lice and scabies most often. Recently it was found that Ivermectin kills covid 19 by stopping replication. This was accomplished in-vitro.

And, as Dr. Fauci stated, there are other studies that show it doesn’t.

I think like any other drugs, some work better for some people, other drugs work better for other people. Having an arsenal of different treatments that worked for some would be what I would want available to me if I needed them.

Would you want to risk these side effects if you weren't sure it could help? From WebMD:

Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, or headache may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: slow heartbeat, symptoms of heart failure (such as shortness of breath, swelling ankles/feet, unusual tiredness, unusual/sudden weight gain), mental/mood changes (such as anxiety, depression, rare thoughts of suicide, hallucinations), hearing changes (such as ringing in the ears, hearing loss), easy bruising/bleeding, signs of infection (such as sore throat that doesn't go away, fever), signs of liver disease (such as severe stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine), muscle weakness, unwanted/uncontrolled movements (including tongue/face twitching), hair loss, hair/skin color changes.

This medication may cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Tell your doctor right away if you develop symptoms of low blood sugar, such as sudden sweating, shaking, hunger, blurred vision, dizziness, or tingling hands/feet. If you have diabetes, be sure to check your blood sugars regularly. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication.

Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: severe dizziness, fainting, fast/irregular heartbeat, seizures.

This medication may cause serious eye/vision problems. The risk for these side effects is increased with long-term use of this medication and with taking this medication in high doses. Get medical help right away if you have any symptoms of serious eye problems, including: sensitivity to light, vision changes (such as light flashes/streaks, blurred vision, difficulty reading, missing areas of vision).

If you read about side effects, no one would ever take any meds. Those side effects pamphlets are scary.

If I was dying I would take my chance that it was not proven effective by the medical community. I had an emergency situation years ago where I almost bled to death. I was given a drug that was not approved to stop the bleeding but was known for some to do it so it was prescribed and worked for me .

Also here in the states we are usually many years behind medicines and procedures that are used for years overseas successfully But not approved here. I was once in a participant in a study for a procedure that was not approved in the states but was overseas for a massive fibroid. I was approved for 2 treatments. I got the first and the fibroid shrunk significantly. I was scheduled two weeks later to have the other side done but the government agency that oversaw the approvals changed their minds saying it was too risky while this procedure was already common practice successfully elsewhere. This was not an invasive procedure. Ultimately I had to have a hysterectomy which was invasive and imo much more risky. Today the procedure is common in the states. My only mistake, I should have gotten on a plane and gone to Israel and have it done and self paid.

So forget the political community, I am also concerned with many in the medical community limiting my choices. It should be a choice made by me and my medical doctor.

Almost all medicines list a long list of side effects. Any medicines you put in you have risk.

It’s nice to say forget the medical community. Unfortunately, politicians and the media company that supports one party is pushing to use a drug that hasn’t been approved through testing. I agree it should be between you and your doctor. If you, and your surviving family members, are willing to absolve the doctor of any responsibility if that drug kills you instead of heals you, then I have no problem with that. However, if the doctor is still going to be held responsible for malpractice if the drug does kill you, the politicians have no business promoting it. They’re playing politics with other people’s lives and it needs to stop.

Although I understand the frustration that the FDA approval process is slow, you're skating on controversial ice here. The classic case is the drug thalidomide.

Look up information about thalidomide and birth defects. The FDA had a major success when it did NOT allow use of this drug in the USA in the late 1950s. The drug was marketed in Europe, taken by pregnant women, and birth defects followed. The problems caused by thalidomide led to greater drug regulation and monitoring.

Of course, this does not mean that thalidomide is a "bad" medication. It was later approved in the US and is used today ( along with other closely related drugs) to treat certain diseases.

That last link is from the Huffington Post. Unfortunately, these days, it's become important to be aware of the political bias of the source you're reading.

You must of missed Governor Cuomo update when he said it‘s working also. I believe he stated something along the lines that it’s showing good results.
Look up the interview with the Democrat Michigan Representative that took it, she said it saved her life & she also thanked President Trump

HEY HEY HEY. Keep the politics out of this.

The FDA approved drugs used for malaria ( hydrochloroquine) or the other used for scabies ( ivermectin ) have less side effects than Tylenol, lol.

Side effects are also what was observed across a variety of participants. But just because there IS a side effect does not mean you will EXHIBIT that side effect yourself if you take that drug.

People react differently to things.

I agree with you, but do you have any evidence the report isn’t true?

I didn’t miss anything and I didn’t name any politician or party. I said the decision should be made by the medical community, not the political community. Community was intended to mean All politicians, not just democrats, not just republicans, not just liberals, not just conservatives, ALL of them need to stay out of medical decisions! As Trump said, “But, what do I know? I’m not a doctor.” That’s also true of Cuomo!

So, what else you got?

I feel that the final decision is mine alone. I would consult with a doctor but after all is said and done I make the call.

My apologies, I misinterpreted your post
I can say for a fact from personal knowledge that a lot of medical professionals are taking it as a precaution before even coming down with the virus

Years ago I remember reading in a Medical Journal that if Aspirin had to go through the FDA approval testing it would not be allowed on the Market. Thank goodness it was Grandfathered.

Partly that's because pain meds are *really hard* to get approved. The standard of evidence is, loosely, "demonstrably better than placebo." But, it turns out that the brain is *really good* at re-wiring its perception of pain, so that's an area in which the placebo effect is unusually, well, effective. One outcome of this is that a pain med has to have one heck of a hammer to "work"--which is why so many of them are opioids.

That said, much like democracy, the evidence-based standard of approval is the worst one, except for all the others.

Since they have now decided to test Hydroxchloroquine on live patients, in Detroit, w/out the necessary studies, I recall how the US government utilized poor communities as test subjects in Tuskegee and Puerto Rico.

Here is what I consider to be a very good article about what Covid-19 does to the body and what some of the current treatments do to counteract those things.

What I find mind boggling is that 4 months ago there wasn't a Covid-19. It started to surface in Wuhan late in December and the WHO referred to it as a type of pneumonia. Three months ago, the US was almost about to experience Case #1. Two months ago, health and gov't officials in NY state and NYC were telling their constituents that there was no need for concern, and that people could go out in public, go to a movie, watch a parade, etc. My point is that this whole thing is still unfolding. I think that the article provides some new info. But in another month, we will probably know even more.

It's not an experimental drug. Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is already FDA approved and has been widely used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and lupus for many years. Odds are that we've got lots of TUGgers who already take it for their RA or lupus. This is simply a new potential use for an approved drug. Doctors frequently use drugs "off label" for things other than the FDA-approved indication. In the current crisis, using this drug to treat Covid-19 could very well be viewed as the current standard of care.

I expect that the standard of care for Covid-19 will continue to rapidly evolve (although probably not as rapidly as the public would like - we'd all like to see a cure and a vaccine TODAY). I would prefer that the politicians and the pundits in the media quiet down and allow doctors and scientists worldwide to continue to work on fighting this disease.
