Hi, I'm currently figuring out my 1st TS purchase. I'm getting married may 2009 and think it may be a good idea to buy a TS instead of a one time honeymoon.

My fiance is not completely convinced and thinks TS are somewhat of a scam....so I got to get this purchase right :)

I was originally thinking of getting a 2bd float week at the Seapointe in carlsbads, because its close to home so on years we did not want to go far (we live in SD) or wanted to bring friends we easily could. I like the idea of float weeks because of flexibilty. Plus the seapointe is a points resort and I did not realize (i'm a newbie) that you still need to pay the $3,000 convert fee.....so that threw me for a loop

I was thinking that we will trade 50% of the time. Our first yr 2009, we would trade for our honeymoon somewhere tropical in Mexico or Caribbean

Though research (thank you, Tug) I'm now thinking maybe it would be a good idea to just buy a already converted rci points TS with low maintenance fees and trade most of the time? That way we can have the flexibility and use points when we want to rent here, there, or wherever?

what our your thought on weeks vs points? do you think the TS in carlsbad would be a good trade(even though not summer week) or just go with the points and say who cares with the "home resort"

please keep in mind that I would really like either TS to trade and get me a tropical honeymoon sometime in may/june2009.

any input would be highly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

I personally like the idea of a SoCal week better.

I own a couple weeks at Monarch Grand (MGV) and like them alot. They have 6 resorts in the SoCal area. Ramona, Dana point (2 resorts), LV, Palm springs & Tahoe. Plus a brand new one in Cabo.

You can buy into their point system cheap ( resale of course!!) and then visit any of the SoCal resorts. Before you think of buying one of the MGV resorts read the advice article on MGV in the TUG advice page. LINK

Good Luck

If you are buying resale and the unit is under the old 'weeks' (or it reverts back to 'weeks' after resale), you are not required to convert to Points. If you stick with 'weeks', make sure you buy a high demand (i.e. summer) week to get the best trade and/or rental value. If you buy a points package, be sure to get enough points for your yearly need.
