I have put in an exchange for Maui for the Summer of 2009 through Interval. I have requested various resorts like Marriott, Westin, Whaler, Sands of Kahana, etc. I requested a 2 bedroom only.

My question is will requesting a 1 bedroom increase my chances of the exchange going through sooner. Also are the 1 bedrooms all units with a seperate bedroom from the main room. I do not want basically a hotel room with the bed in the main area. We will be traveling with our 3 younger kids and a room with a seperate bedroom and fold out couch will work but a hotel style room will not.

I hope everyone understands my question and I appreciate any info you can provide.

The main factor in whether you get the request is the trade power of the unit you are depositing. However, accepting a 1 bedroom will vastly improve your chances for getting the trade.

For II to consider a unit a one bedroom it must have a private sleeping area seperate from the bedroom. However most resorts have a maximum occupancy of four in a one bedroom, including children. You should confirm occupancy rules with any resort if you do request a one bedroom.

gmarine, thanks for the information, that helps. Here's a follow-up. Hope I'm not breaking any unwritten exchange rules!! How do they know if I have 2 or 3 kids in the room with me?? I cant rememer that ever being checked before..... Sorry but I really want this exchange and I am willing to bend the rules a little to get it!! Thanks again.

By the way, I have deposited my week at The Ridge in Tahoe during June of 2009

I'm sure plenty of people bend the rules having an extra child in a room. But I would definitely call the resorts first and see what the policy is. If the policy is very strict, for example fire code, then you could be evicted should you break the occupancy rules. Some resorts also impose extra fees for additional people in a room. The resort may not find out but think about how many times you go in and out of your room as a family.

Be as flexible as you can with your dates and resorts as summer in Hawaii is very tough to get even with a very strong trading unit. Good luck.

Not an "exchange rule"...

I believe that unit occupancy rules and limits are actually identified and imposed by the facility (i.e., not exchange company rules, written or unwritten)...
