Should you wear a mask for casual walking ?
It depends. Are you walking indoors or outdoors? Are there other people around?

What would be the point of that? Unless you are going to be closer than 6 feet to someone else.

I find it laughable when I see someone wearing a mask walking by themselves without a single person anywhere near them. But hey- if that’s what they want to do...

I wear a mask on my walk to the park to meet my mom. I'm alone and often not near anyone. However, I wear it because:
- That way I don't forget to wear it during my interaction with my mom
- Most people are nice and easy to avoid but every now and then there's some jerk who LITERALLY hawked up a loogie and spit RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME or the two teen kids who COUGHED IN MY FACE as they walked passed me.

This is the reality now. There are mostly nice, polite people who may agree or disagree but can stay civil and keep to themselves. But then there are people ACTIVELY trying to scare me or make me sick. This is what is happening in our country right now.

Unbelievable how some people can act that way! I usually have my mask around my neck when out for my daily walk, then pull it on when others approach 10 ft of me. However, with the fires in CA, I started wearing it all the time outside because of the smoke and ash.

I can't telll how many times I've reached the door of an establishment , turned around, returned to my car for the mask I left inside. To avoid this, sometimes I just wear the mask while I'm walking. I can remember everything else--keys, credit card, phone--but the mask eludes me.

I don't wear a mask when I run outdoors because I don't get within 6 feet of people. When I see people on the trail we all go to the other side. I wear an N95 when the smoke is outside in California and with a clear face shield when I go to the store. I am seeing more and more people adding a shield and several people have asked me where I got it because they want one. Wearing it has become a habit when I go to the store. Why not protect myself?

The way our state mandate reads we are supposed to wear masks all the time, except when in your home, or eating and drinking (when out). So I take that to mean, yes we should be wearing masks. However I see people out casually walking by themselves, or with others, without masks. I can't fault them for that if they are truly isolated. Many people have a mask with them and put it on when they encounter others.

I do not wear a mask; When I am walking outdoor along in a public park or on a walking trail or when I am cutting grass. My Commander in Chief want me to wear a mask all the time except in the house.

Thanks everyone for your opinions.

I'd made several quick stops so mask was around my neck for easy access. Felt like a scofflaw when I turned to walk away from the package drop off counter at the PO and saw all the masked faces and realized that by the time I'd wrestled the boxes out of my back seat I'd forgotten to pull my mask up. We walk with masks around our necks ready to be pulled up, except in the park where there are shadowy curvy paths along the pond and we can come across someone quickly -- then we just leave them on until we are back up a street level with longer sight lines.

So I was that person yesterday.... driving in my car with my mask on with my daughter with her mask on, all windows down.

My daughter is diligent about mask usage (she treats covid patients), I have rarely been in her home since March (and wore a mask when I did - to check out paint colors in the basement).

So yesterday she needed a ride, and jokingly I said, are we gonna wear masks. And she said yes, etc...

Note: We don't wear masks when we are outside, walking or taking the kids to the park. At one point we did, but haven't for several months now. Carry hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes and use as I feel necessary.
