...snip...
From the start, I said my niece had to have more than 2% Italian, they were not even showing any neighboring countries. I am not the one who speculated that there was a family secret regarding her birth. And subsequent testing verified my opinion.
Rapmarks, I apologize. It's apparent to me now that you felt that I was insulting your family and questioning your knowledge and memory of their heritage and family events. I did not feel as if I was. I felt that I was impartially listing as many reasons ancestry results may vary from what anyone expects them to, not specifically to the facts of your situation which I could not possibly know.
When I posted "DNA doesn't lie, people do," I was repeating an often used mantra of DNA expert searchers to the multitudes of seekers on DNA Search websites who come to the site declaring that their results can not be true. Often, when this seeker confronts an ancestor with their results, the person they confront declares that the DNA was a mistake and they don't trust it. They come to these sites either in denial themselves or wondering if the results are indeed be a mistake and if they should test again. Many respond with the mantra. And frequently, these seekers learn that the results were indeed correct as someone helps them uncover their ancestors and the mystery is solved and the DNA results verified. I can now see that you didn't know the origin of that mantra and felt my posting it was directed specifically at your family, and I do apologize and hope you accept. I am glad that you have more testing to back up your own family history knowledge and hope that you will continue to compare the results as updates are made as it's a fascinating journey and amazing use of science.
