Planning a trip to Maui next year and considering the end of March. Is that still prime Whale Watch Season or should I go earlier in the month?

We just got back, left Maui on the 20th. Weather was very strange while we were there, chilly and windy. It did get better by the time we left. We took a whale watching tour during our first week on March 6. Did see whales, but not as many as in the past. We saw one whale from our lanai and a couple on the beach, but again much less activity than in past years.Anyone on Maui last week or this week. Are there still many whales to see? Thinking of a visit this same time period next year or should I plan earlier in March?
Cindy ALL boats and companies are bound by the same regulations. They cannot get within a certain distance of tne whales. However, if whales approach the boat, the boat is to stop movement until the whale(s) leave. We've been on Pacific Whale Watch tours where whales have swum underneath the boat. So, you just got lucky on tnat trip, had nothing to do with the tour operator. We used to go with Pacific Whale each year. We went with Maui Adventure Cruises this year and saw whales up close and personal in that raft. We went at 8 AM, and we had whales surrounding our boat for 30 minutes. Mom and baby and a couple of others not as close, but closer than Pacific Whale gets. The whales are very curious about the rafts. We will do Maui Adventure Cruises every year.
I know all of that. The whales were very curious. The boat's motor went off immediately, when someone spotted the turquoise color near the boat. We had two really great trips with this company. This one was the best. Our friends have a condo on Maui and were with us on both of our trips, and she took some great photos and videos.Cindy ALL boats and companies are bound by the same regulations. The zodiacs are nice because they can transition to another area very quickly, among other benefits. Definitely not as dry and stable as big boats.
Getting mugged though, depends on the luck of the draw.
We actually prefer the bigger boats to the zodiacs. The zodiacs are nice because they can transition to another area very quickly, among other benefits. Definitely not as dry and stable as big boats.

I see all this talk about Maui so it’s now on the bucket list. Does anyone know if you can see whales from the big island? That’s where we’re heading in a couple of weeks.
You may be able to see them, but the largest number of whale congregate on Maui.I see all this talk about Maui so it’s now on the bucket list. Does anyone know if you can see whales from the big island? That’s where we’re heading in a couple of weeks.
