For fun, we were looking back through our exchange and getaway history over the last 23 years and we saw a few week 53 trips. Did week 53 go away with destination points? I haven't thought about trying to get a week 53 in years. Just curious. Happy travels!

They are still out there but they don't occur as often and they're only for weeks based usage. It's based on the calendar.

2016 had a Week 53 if you checked in on Friday or Saturday.
2017 had a Week 53 if you checked in on Sunday.
2021 is the next Week 53 with a check in on Friday.

That's as far as the official calendars go out.

Unofficially:
2022 will have a Week 53 if you check in on Friday or Saturday
2023 will have a Week 53 if you check on on Saturday or Sunday
2027 will have a Week 53 with Friday check in.

Pretty much, if December 30 or 31 fall on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, those are considered Week 53.

We used to be able to exchange a week 53 through Interval. Is that still possible or do you now have to actually use week 53 as week 53?

Marriott owns week 53 generally so it depends on what they want to do with it. At one time they often allowed owners to reserve week 53 by paying the fees (several variations over the years) but I haven't heard anything in a while. Members would often reserve then deposit when that was an option. Of course the Sea Pines Calendar is a week off from the standard timeshare calendar.

I purchased several week 53s way back when......and the fee was the amount of the maintenance fee.
Looking back, that was expensive, but we got some great weeks.
Those that were high season (say, Park City or Ocean Pointe) were deposited for trade, and the trades were awesome,
plus I think we got the old Interval bonus week to boot, and those were very good back then too.

At one time I owned Week 52 at the Berkshire Beach Club in Deerfield Beach, FL. Documents, deed, etc were clear the the Owner of Week 52 was entitled to Week 53 at no additional cost. It was one of the reasons I bought Week 52...

Many timeshares have this option where if you pay the fees for the week you get week 53 or week 00 as many call it..

Week 53 deals went away when the points system came out. Huge disappointment, as we made use of them every year.

Thanks for the info. We had three great week 53 trips way back when. Too bad they are no longer available. Cheers!

Does anyone know how often the week 53 comes around for a Sunday check in?

We are HICV and looking at the chart from 2017 it looks like from that point forward that there is no 53 until 2021

Is that correct?

Correct. If you look at my post above, you'll see 2021 and 2023 as the next dates. I only looked up to 2027.
