I booked a studio at the Georgetown Suites in DC - plan to drive but once I'm there I will not need my car at all. The charge to park at the resort is $35/day. Does anyone know of a less expensive alternative that would be within walking distance or doable with bus/metro? My car will just stay in place the whole time, don't need any in-and-out.

Many times you'll find that parking in a metropolitan area is expensive no matter where you park. Sometimes the convenience of having your car on property is worth it.

Check this out.

I would go with Union Station. It is about as safe as anything in DC. Normal rate is $22 per day. Groupon often (including now) will sell three days of parking for $53.

I frequently park there a couple of days a week when my work takes me to Capitol Hill. It is as major of a transportation hub (bus, metro & train) as there is in DC.

Despite having a Massachusetts Ave address, you need to enter the garage (if driving) from H Street.

By the time you leave it at Union Station for five days just remember that partial days may count as whole days (I can't remember if Union Station is this way or not). You could spend well over $100 then figure about $25 round trip for an Uber. See what it costs to leave your car at Georgetown Hospital Center (or if you are allowed to do so). If it were me, I would just suck it up and pay the $165.

There's a Colonial Parking garage almost across the street from Georgetown Suites, slightly south of the hotel towards the river, and it's cheaper. Partial days probably do count as full days. Their office isn't technically "open" on weekends but you can take a ticket, drive in and park. It's what we did, can't get more convenient than that.

Parking is free at MGM at National Harbor... well, it was when I was there last, about a month ago. It's in MD, just outside DC.

If you're a gambler, maybe plan to go there your 1st night, hang out at the slots (or not), then Uber/Lyft/taxi back to your hotel. I think there may even be a new metro bus stop there.

Even if you're not a gambler, there are shops and restaurants...most are a bit pricy, but parking is free.

FYI... I have never had a need to park there for multiple days, so I don't know if there are restrictions... but it may be worth looking in to (or maybe others have more info to share.)

BTW, we pulled up into the entrance area of Georgetown Suites, parked in there temporarily, unloaded our luggage, checked in, then came back down for our car and drove out of the entrance area, turned left, drove half a block down, turned right into the garage entrance, took a ticket and parked the car, walked back up a half block. There were lots of available spaces.

I had called this company in advance and they directed me to a different lot farther away, representing that because this garage is "closed" on weekends, we wouldn't be able to park there arriving on a Sunday. That was wrong information.

I recommend parking near DCA (Ronald Reagan airport). There's plenty of parking around there, and it's easy to hop off and on the metro to get your car. Sometimes parking can be as cheap as $8 per day in that area.
