Well, would you believe it? - this is how us Brits have always pronounced it haha

Right. Rhymes with 'chariot', not MarriOTT. That's the way I've always pronounced it.

i.e., "If you like it, then you should Marry-It" !

I never realized anyone pronounced Marriott differently than 'rhymes with chariot'. Unless someone out there says, "Char-e-oh".

Even the employees said MarriOTT so I said MarriOTT. Now I know better and will say, “Marriott” like chariot.

Being from Orlando, most people here pronounce it "kih-SIM-mee". Or, going to East Massachusetts, they pronounce Peabody as "pee-bid-dee" while 99% of the world will say "pee-bod-ee". Or, Gloucester is pronounced "GLAH-stah" while Dorcester is pronounced "DOR-ches-TAH". And for those who like classy cars, Brougham is pronounced "BROHM", while the family name it was named after pronounces it "BRO-ham".

No wonder non-English-speakers hate English!

My wife and everyone I know in the STL area pronounces is MarriOTT. Even the Marriott staff around here. Could be a regional thing. Prolly the most variable translation of a city is New Orleans. When I was at Ole Miss, I mostly heard it said No'rlins. In STL we said New Orleans.
