I plan to sell my timeshares and expect to use the TUG marketplace or eBay. Once I line up a willing buyer, then what? Is it a simple matter of contacting the resort to transfer the account, or do I need to use a timeshare closing service?

My primary timeshare is with Universal Vacation Club/Villa Group in Mexico and California, and consists of a membership rather than a deeded property.

Does anyone have experience doing this?

With a RTU (right to use) timeshare, (not deeded) you usually make the transfer with the resort title office.

The process is pretty much what Denise said. You can read the faq at the owners website, https://myuvci.com/faq/#1531931862944-1502be56-60fa

Resales/Transfers
Q. Does the Club or the Developer offer any resale options for my Membership?
A. Currently, there is no mechanism offered by the Club or the Developer to assist in the resale of your weeks/points. Although there are resale companies in existence, the Club does not recommend or endorse any of these organizations.

Q. How can I transfer Ownership of my Membership Contract?
A. Contact Member Services by emailing memberservicesadmin@resortcom.com for complete instructions and requirements for Ownership Transfer. Memberships must be paid in full and have current maintenance fees to begin the process.

Q. How can I add a name, change a name or remove a name from my Ownership contract?
A. Please email Member Services at memberservicesadmin@resortcom.com for assistance with adding, changing, and/or removing a name from your Ownership contract.

It's pretty easy if it's a Premier or Gold membership. It's a lot more difficult if it's a points (aka VPA) membership. There is a larger, unspecified transfer fee (supposedly 10% of original purchase price...I cannot confirm this), reversion to Premier membership and UVC's right of first refusal. Often sale of points is impossible. If you want to dump it, calling UVC and surrendoring the membership is an option.

See section 2.06 in the Bylaws for VPA Club.

Good Luck.
