I am wondering if I purchase a Hyatt property with 2200 points, how hard is it to make a reservation for another property like the Hyatt Kaanapali that also takes 2200 points? or is it better to buy where you want to stay?

Maui is difficult to trade into. We can usually get a 4 day midweek reservation if we are flexible but nothing you can count on. We rarely use our home week, as we love variety and trying different resorys, but we bought where we would like to stay as you never know how or when things in the program change. We added a Vistana week to trade into Maui, which is so far fairly easy to get with some flexibility. We love both programs for different reasons

We have 2200 points at Piñon Pointe and always stay at our property, but not always using the whole thing. We were able to book into a 1 bedroom in Maui this past September. Our strategy was to be really open ended with our dates. We basically requested 1 week any time within a 5-6 month timeframe.

Can you do a wait list that way? I will have to try it

I guess that was how we did it...

The day after we checked into our regular week in Sedona, our new points became available... that same day we got an email that the waitlist went through and we got an email saying we had confirmed Maui... that left us with a studio... but they would not confirm us our week and location in the studio, as the waitlist knocked out our week.

I called and we were able to confirm a week in a studio during our normal week and they took away the booking fee... and requested our unit, but the unit is not guaranteed... I guess we will see when we check in this April
