My info is about 2 years old and suggests that the trade power and quality ratings are independent but work together. Yes in effect it is trade power but it is (or at least was) a different processes. The resort won't necessarily be blocked on resort quality, the reps can override it to trade down. But it also works both ways as you can't move up or down TOO much though as the time draws nearer, the restrictions are reduced.

Yes, it is only blocked from doing it yourself. You can always call and do it. On trading up I have to respectfully disagree. I can show you an example right now of one of my resorts that no Marriott can view, but that same resort can see units at the highest rated Marriott resorts. The block filter only goes one direction and it has been this way for at least 5 years. What you are describing about restrictions being reduced as time draws nearer is the trading power (or resort "quality", but not the block filter).

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this in but you guys all seem so knowledgeable in exchanging thought I’d ask here. What’s the best gold week (May 1st to Dec 15th) to book at Aruba Surf Club for trading power? 2 bed Oceanside. Thanks

What does the TDI chart show? Probably July 4th week or any of the July weeks would have the highest TDI. They are going to be better than fall weeks. Thanksgiving week might be okay too, but I suspect summer to be better because of US school holidays.

I just checked, weeks 26 through 31 - late July through early Aug have the highest TDI for gold season.

I doubt you'll see any difference weeks 26 (when it includes 7/4) through week 31 and little if any difference through week 35. Certainly June and Sept after the holiday will be lower but not a ton. If you cross reference with RCI there is no difference in TPU from week 26 through week 35 for 2020. But the other components are getting the reservation and when do you want to travel. If you normally travel summer you'll have to decide whether getting the week for 2020 earlier and therefore putting in the request will be best vs getting a later week and having more 2022 options. When & where do you want to travel using the exchange?

Thanks guys. That’s what I was curious of was if there were any best weeks to book other than the obvious week of July 4th. So basically any week from July 4th to Labor Day is good for exchanging.
I am new to this so still learning. I was hoping to maybe lock off the 1 bed in 2020 and exchange for a 1 or 2 bed week in the winter in 2021. Do able do you think??

My theory on TDI is that it is used to give a person who is requesting an exchange an idea of the likelihood of success in getting their exchange request fulfilled. If they are trying to book into a location when the TDI is high, II is trying to let them know that they have a lot of competition. You would think it logical then that it would also affect trade power, but in my trade tests it has not played out that way. I no longer have the Marriott that I used for trading so I haven't checked recently, but back in the day I just stopped worrying about TDI and relied on OGS, Marriott preference, and booking during shoulder season to get good trades. My other traders are all fixed week or blended trade power (SDO) so I don't give trade power a lot of thought anymore.

Btw, use common sense to choose the week that you are going to deposit. Target holiday weeks, or weeks that bump up to 3 day weekends. Obviously mid summer at the beach etc. Don't worry about TDI too much. Deposit the weeks that people want to get.

If you're looking at Winter 2021 then I might do a later week even if it's a slightly lower trade power assuming it's 21-22 you're looking at.

I'd get week 27 or the first one after that you can get. Deposit at that time and put in the request for as many weeks and the smallest unit you're OK with.

Great. Thanks dean. Off topic. Can you give me the link to your thread where you purchased the 3 bed at Surf Club please and all you enrollments? I can’t find it anywhere. That was you right?

Yes it was. Bought DC points at sales presentation Pulse San Fran.Let me know if there's any other info you want/need. I did not look at St. Kitt's or Spain. I had made contact with them in person when there in Jan asking about possible options.
