I didn't know they had already put in a golf course between Spouting Horn and Allerton Garden. Now they're planning a new development out that way.

Maybe the wealthy would rather buy down there instead of the new development next to The Point at Poipu.

The golf course has actually been there for a while, I think. It was a revenue producer when the lots weren't selling. I also believe there was something about the entrance to Allerton that was going to have to change because of the development, but I can't remember what it was. It is really a shame what the developers are doing to the "rural" feel of the island. The infrastructure on the island simply can't handle developments like Kukui'ula.

I would imagine the same things were said when Poipu Kai was platted. As well as Princeville.

I suspect the Canarsee and the Wappinger at some point lamented the loss of rural feel in Manhattan.

We were on Kauai In October and Maybe it was just folks that had plans in the Carribean changed there trips to Hawaii but it was really busy. We go in May or Oct to try and miss the crowds were ridiculous, we had to wait an hour in the rental car line. When we went to waima canyon, you had to wait at each of the areas to get a parking space and kee beach....forget it unless you want a mile hike.

Just too many people

It's the product of a healthy worldwide economy, bolstered mainly by booming stock markets in the USA and Japan. Tourism in Hawaii is near its peak, even in the shoulder seasons. 2017 represents the highest hotel occupancy rate ever in Hawaii, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Interesting articles and makes me wonder why the Marriott Maui listings on Redweek and Vacation Candy are seeing so few rentals at this point for Jan-Mar. maybe folks are just booking closer to departure date. Will see if things stay soft on the rental side as VC has described it so far these past months, at least for Maui.
