The 50 Most Expensive Top Private High Schools in America
By Andy Kiersz/ Business Insider/ businessinsider.com

Sending a child to a top private high school can be expensive.

We took a look at the 150 top-ranked private high schools in America according to Niche, and found the 50 schools from that list with the highest annual tuition.

The lion's share of the most expensive top-ranked schools are in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, especially the New York City area. No fewer than 15 of the schools on the list are located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

Here are the 50 most expensive top-ranked private high schools in America, along with their location, annual tuition for the highest grade offered according to Niche, the Niche ranking of the school, and whether or not the school provides boarding. For schools that offer boarding, we've listed only the cost of tuition, without room and board......"

The Lawrenceville School has an annual tuition of $51,440, according to Niche.

Interesting list. I am aware of the California schools since I work with rich kids. The list seems concentrated in NY, MA and CA with a few other Northeast states. It might correlate with cost of living and income in these areas.

It is not the education as much as the contacts you make. .

Essentially - non family nepotism / "We" could save a lot of money by going to the Saudi structure - where it is pure family connectivity .

Personally - on society social structure : I prefer the timeshare developer sales model - WE ACCEPT ANYONE - just $$ sign here .

After 5th Grade we switched our kids to one of the Christian Schools in the DFW area. It worked out well for out kids and the tuition was less than 1/10 of those on this list...

I agree with bluehende’s observation. There is a snobbery around people who attend exclusive private schools. It is all about connections. Also, especially at the college and grad school level, getting admitted into an exclusive Ivy League or similar university helps you for the rest of your life, even without great social connections. It is like an advertisement that you are worthy and intelligent. That may or may not be true but that is what a prestigious school stamps on your resume. So it turns out to be worth the extra dollars upfront for a lifetime of benefits.

If you click on the Niche link contained in the second bullited item near the top which has the full list, you'll see a broader distribution.

A agree with both your observations -

*******

and that is why resale timeshare are even better - pay $ 1 on ebay and get a lifetime of benefits / without the snobbery .

I do not see the connection between elite schools and timeshares.

I'm not saying I disagree - but I will tell you a bit of a story. In my area, there is a private school that for children from PreK to 8th grade. When it came time to enroll my DD in PreK, we chose a private school for a fraction of the cost of this one. I never even considered it because I equated and assumed money automatically equaled snobbery, entitlement, etc. I wanted my kid to be grounded. There was no way my kid would be a pre-Madonna!

Fast forward, my kiddo is now in middle school. Want to know where she is? THAT school. I made a mistake with my assumption that expensive was snooty. I was very wrong.
