First of all thank you all sooo much!
We bought a timeshare today in Orlando with HGVC and after coming in here and reading the forums we immediately regretted our decision.
My husband already typed in the cancel/ rescind letter and we are mailing it in tomorrow.
You guys saved us 14k.
We are sure now that we want to buy a timeshare in the near future. But we know better now!!!
With your experience which one is best, HGVC or Windham?
Thank you so much

One more thing.
The more I read the more confused I get about location.
Why does the location you buy make such a big difference? Does it matter? Can you just book anywhere you want?

Location mostly does not matter, as starting 9 months out, you can book anywhere.
But if you prefer high demand locales (Hawaii, NYC), home week booking starts 12 mos. out.
In my 12 years with HGVC, I've never made a home week booking.

With HGVC, it all depends on where you want to go. If you want a hard to book resort in the prime weeks, you may want to buy there (you get a home season booking advantage). Places like SW Florida, ski weeks at Breckenridge or Park City and summer weeks in Oahu might be hard to book. Otherwise, buy the lowest MF per point 2 bedroom platinum (or bigger) you can. Non Trump Vegas is always a great place to start. By purchasing the best MF per point ratio you can, you will save money over the long haul. If you own at The Boulevard in Vegas, you will pay around $850 for 7000 points. If you bought at Bay Club on the Big Island, those same points would cost you over $1500. Potentially the same vacations at The Boulevard are just a little over half the price of The Bay Club trips.
