1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?

Orlando.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?

I think we could do Orlando every other year. It would be nice to have other options for the opposite years.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?

Vegas, Ireland/UK/Western Europe, Hawaii, New Orleans, Myrtle Beach

4) How many people do you usually travel with?

Two adults, one child.

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?

School Schedule for now.

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?

Yes

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?

Yes

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?

3 Stars or higher. Nice but not luxury

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?

$5-10k.

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?

Up to $1300

11) Are you a detail oriented planner?

Yes. All recent travel has been funded by credit card reward churning.

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?

Yes.

Since you are value minded I see being a card churner like myself.

I would personally look at renting if Orlando and Vegas are your top places to visit. You won’t be bogged down with a TS and these to locations are easy to get something in all the time.

But if you want to get one I know Wyndham, Worldmark, and Hilton’s will get you most of your list, but UK, Ireland and Western Europe would be an exchange trade with one of these systems and the exchange company they trade with.

Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at Timeshares because credit card churning has become progressively more tedious. Life has also gotten a bit more stable so it'd be nice to know we had a guaranteed vacation week so I can request leave each year for the same week. We went to a Hilton presentation, but buying from the developer seemed like a shitty deal (which is what brought me to TUG). It seems like it could be a good deal if I find a discounted TS at a low upfront price. The maintenance fees aren't that much of a concern and seem quite comparable (or lower in some instances) to what we end up paying for a non-point funded rental.

The three companies you mentioned are the ones I was looking at so its good to know I was on the right track.

Do you have any suggestions on where to find the best deals for rentals? My daughter is 6 so getting a suite is basically a must, which is also what led to me start looking at timeshares a bit more seriously.

Tug Market Place, Last Minute Deals Thread, eBay under travel and lodging. Or Redweek to name a few.
