There is a huge difference. I am a Social Worker and have worked in both. A person is typically more independent if they live in assisted living. They do not need skilled nursing care but assistance with activities of daily living.A nurse is typically on call in assisted living 24 hours a day but not on duty. In nursing homes a nurse will be on duty 24 hours a day. Both will have CNAs or caregiving staff 24 hours a day. If your loved one is medically eligible for both pick assisted living.
Good Luck.

Sue: We have just started shopping for memory/assisted living/independent living homes as my husband has progressive dementia (diagnosed 2-1/2 yrs ago). What would be the five most important questions to ask while visiting the assortment of these homes?

Ask your Dr. for a recommendation as well. Our Dr. pointed us to my late Mother's Assisted Living as he used to call there and felt it was very good. We were recommended a nursing home by, of all things, another nursing home caregiver. I also accessed info on ratings on line (can't remember what it was called but I used google to find it).

Folks - the OP is a spammer and has been banned, so I wouldn't put to much effort into answering him.

About $50,00 per year

Nursing homes are much more expensive and provide much more care.
