The title is the question. Is there any difference to the trading power of the two sides of a 2 bedroom lock-off Gold Plus (floats 1-52)?

Follow-up question: Whats the chance of trading into a 2 bedroom Marriot on Hilton Head low season (week 43)?

Waiting for unit to close, so cannot ascertain through experiment just yet.

No negligible difference in trading power between the units. In their eyes, a one bedroom is a one bedroom it seems. Interval cares about the unit size and a one bedroom always trades better than a studio.

Follow-up question:

Same resort same week: Will a 1 bedroom deposit see the same II inventory as a 2 bedroom deposit. Example: A 1 bedroom vs 2 bedroom Sheraton Desert Oasis; or a 1 bedroom vs a 2 bedroom Sheraton Broadway Plantation. All other things being equal (resort, week,).

Question essentially is will the 1 bedroom see larger units on the same basis as the 2 bedroom, but simply be subject to the II size upgrade charges?

I assume in an ongoing search that a 2 bedroom will trump a 1 bedroom when trying to match to a 2 or 3 bedroom. ??

I haven't done any trade tests recently, but in the past the answer to your first question is probably, but not always. :D Sometimes the 1 bedroom will see all of the available units, but sometimes there are one or two units (in a bulk deposit) that you can't see. Sometimes you can't see any of the larger units. And in the past year or two, I don't see a lot of two bedroom units even with a two bedroom deposit. Especially in Hawaii. Where are you looking to trade?

In answer to your second question the answer is definitely yes, but an ongoing search (OGS) trumps those looking online so it is still a better option to set one up than not. (Although even with an OGS you should still be checking daily in case something slips through the cracks).

Trading is full of variables, some known (unit size, location etc) and some are known only to II.

I own the same SDO unit and I can pull a 2 bedroom Marriott on Hilton Head (late October) even with the 1 Bedroom small side of my lock off. Of course nothing is available anymore for 2019, but I am looking at 2020. When trading the one bedroom for a two bedroom on II, sadly you now have to pay the $99 upgrade fee. I used to be able to get that extra bedroom for free (the good old days!).

As for trading power in Hawaii, no problem either. I think why the other poster may not be seeing any, is only because the Hawaii deposits get snapped up right away. I made two trades today, both for 2 bedroom Westins in Maui, I could see all choices with my 2 bedroom deposit or 1 bedroom large deposit. My small 1 bedroom could see everything except July/Aug dates. So there is a difference, but very slight. I suggest to search with the largest unit you deposit, but see if you can make the trade with your small lock-off. When I deposit, I usually lock off my units but now I am trying to keep a two bedroom to trade with (maybe every other year) to make sure I have enough trading power if I put in a special request (like a 2 bedroom elite unit in Asia). I can rarely see any of the premium inventory outside of North America, I'm not sure how to get 'dibs' on it!

Enjoy your vacations. I have been very happy with my SDO and have made really fantastic trades.

I agree. When it is a bulk deposit, I see almost everything. Not seeing something is rare. But there are far fewer 2 bedroom deposits now compared to 2011 when I started trading. Back then it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Our last 2 bedroom Westin unit was Nanea back in 2016. We had to fight to get one of the units inside the "U" instead of on the back facing the parking garage. Prior to that we stayed in a 2 bedroom unit at WKORV (not north) and got the "dreaded" building 4, but facing the ocean. It was great. Back then it was easy, but no so much any more. It doesn't matter though, as we are set with exchanges through 2020, lol. I do like doing trade tests to see how things are going. SDO is still a nice trader with fairly low maintenance fees.

I own 2 2br SDO EOY - one plat plus, one gold plus. Ironically the gold plus is more flexible as a home unit since it floats 1 to 52. But there have been situations when the plat plus flexes its muscle...

I can tell you that there are slight differences but not much in the seasons and the A and B side. I've had situation where I only could see a 2br Harborside unit with the plat A side.

Most times, size trumps season. So the Gold plus A unit will most times beat the Plat Plus B unit.

There are differences, but I'd say for the most part it is less than 5% of the times I check both units for trade power.

I assume you mean 2017 or later since Nanea did not open until April 2017 and then it was only about half the units.

You're right. It was 2017. We go around the same time every year (thanks to the magic of timesharing) and the memories are running together! It was the first year that Nanea was open.

. To get inside the U (which I will have to look at a diagram to see what you mean), did you have this discusson/fight? when you were checking in? Or did you show up at the unit and then go back to the front desk to ask to be moved? I have 2 of the 2-bed units booked and am hoping they can be in the same building, and at least one of them having nice views. Any tips?

I don't mean fight in the sense of arguing with the front desk. I just asked if we could possibly have a room with a view. I always ask - you never know what will happen, and I am always pleasant. We are on vacation and I am not going to spoil my fun by getting in an argument with someone at the front desk. But what came back at me (from Jade - I will never forget her) was a deep sigh and a cold look. "Well, I can give you one of our best rooms". Snort. We were in the corner of the "U" - so looking straight into another building across the courtyard and with another room just to our left. But she made if clear that we could have easily been placed in the rooms facing the parking garage. She made me feel like she had done us a huge favor. Maybe she did, who knows, but it certainly had no view.

At Nanea, I would set my expectation bar to low. There are a lot of non-view rooms and I am sure that owners get the best rooms, as they should.

This is the attitude that really pisses me off at the Westin’s in Hawaii. The staff should be trained better, but most of them give the impression they’re doing us a favor when we check in that we have running water and a clean bed, and it’s just not as good as it should be.

I’ve met plenty of nice front desk staff but I really have to remember after a long travel day to put on a friendly smile, wish them a good day, tell them politely that I’ve been here many times and ask sweetly if my request was met and oh by the way which building am I in...and when my request was ignored because “we are at full occupancy” (nonsense) I ask if anything else is available and typically they spend a few minutes with furrowed brows and then miraculously find exactly what I had initially requested. It’s just absurd and should be better. BTW, this happens with StarOptions and II reservations...it doesn’t seem to matter much, though when booking with SOs it is slightly better.

In my experience, the staff at the mainland Westin’s are trained better. I really don’t know why, other than we know there has been a tight labor market on the islands and I suspect that contributes to the issue.

As disappointing as this is, I am glad to hear that I am not the only one. I really don't ask for much - I have *never* asked to change rooms for example - but getting attitude at check in is pretty annoying. Jade was in a league of her own however. Maybe she trains everyone else ;) .

My goodness, that is a great description! Hopefully Jade has moved on to a back-office job. Maybe the huge favour was no sewage smell!
