I’m going to Myrtle Beach this coming April with my two sons (4 and 10 years old), and Seawatch Plantation looks like a great place to stay. There’s currently availability in both the Towers and the Villas. What are the pros and cons of each type of unit? I’m probably going for a 2 bedroom, but I have enough points for a 3 bedroom. Are there any significant differences in the units? I understand the towers can have ocean views, but other than that are there any advantages or disadvantages to consider, especially for kids? Thank you for any advice you might have!

For kids, Seawatch is one of the right choices. Ocean Blvd is the other location kid friendly, Towers 1 2 or 3. The Villas are set back a little bit from the beach. I would go with the Tower. A three bedroom is going to have more space.

This applies to all of the locations mentioned above. Make sure the young child is closely monitored when on or near the balcony. The child will probably try to climb the railing and try and figure out how to open the sliding glass door to the balcony.

IMO the Towers at Seawatch are a better place to stay than the villas.
The Villas are only a few stories tall, so the beach views are not that great from as far back as they are.
The Tower views and balconies are great. The Towers are also where the lazy rivers, large pools and Tiki bar are. And there is less of a hike going to the beach.
For April, I would call the resort to make sure that the pools are heated. I think they are.

When we were there last Christmas at least one of the outdoor pools was heated, as well as all of the hot tubs, so I would expect them to be heated in April.

The Towers are either an oceanfront or ocean view unit and are allot higher since the Wyndham units start about halfway up the building . The villas are a little bigger, a little newer, have less of a walk to your car or to the pools, but have little or no ocean view from your unit. So if the views are more important, go with the Towers. Otherwise, go with the villas.

I prefer the south tower. You can hear the ocean from the room! 3br towers will guarantee oceanfront. Wyndham owns approx floors 12-16 in south tower.
No 3 bedrooms in north tower (only 3 bedroom lock offs) they own a few units in all floors so can get a lower floor there. Some 3 br in villas are technically oceanfront but buildings are further back.
Villas cost less and you get more square footage. IMO a 2 bedroom is plenty of room for you.

Thank you all for the advice. I think I’ll opt for a 2 bedroom in the towers. Better to be closer to the beach and pools, and the view is a bonus. Bigger units are good but I don’t think we’ll spend much time in it, hopefully...

Once you book your stay, call the resort a few days after to see if they can book you oceanfront. Most of the units are ocean view in the Towers, but there's no difference in the points needed.

Good advice above.
I’ll also add most 2 BR in north tower sleep 6. South tower sleep 8 so you get 2 beds in second bedroom. I prefer this so we don’t have to use the sofa bed. Photo next to my screen name was sunrise taken from 2 br sixteenth floor south tower!

Good to know! I have a reservation for a 3 Bedroom Deluxe for "SeaWatch Towers & SeaWatch North Tower" for April...does this mean we'll most likely be in the South Tower?

I have another SeaWatch question, if you'll allow me to further hijack this thread: there is a "helpful hint"on the website that states "Trailers, motorcycles and golf carts are not allowed on property Apr. 1 - Sept. 30 annually."

We've invited my BIL and SIL to join us in April for a few days if their schedules allow. They live in the Raleigh area and are avid motorcyclists, so I'm sure if they're available and the weather is good they'll want to ride down. Is there offsite parking of some sort that they could park at? Or do they just have to drive their car if they come?

Give the resort a call and see if the Seawatch parking pass can be used for the other Myrtle Beach Resorts (Wyndham) parking lots.

I would definitely verify with Resort about no motorcycle parking. We travel with our bike a lot, any most resorts that have no motorcycle parking always do have motorcycle parking and even a specific area for it during rally time. Trailers are a different story.

I have seen trailers, golf carts and motorcycles during my summer stays. However this resort does have private owners also. I would call the resort.

Thanks everyone! So, I called and the motorcycle and trailer rule is an HOA thing that Wyndham didn't get any say in and Wyndham owners and guests have to abide by it. They can hook you up with a list of offsite storage places in the area. She also mentioned that especially for day visitors, there is some private property grassy area next door that "she's seen a lot of folks park on" - she was sure to share that they can't recommend that officially, but that's what they've seen.

She did give me kudos for noticing the info because most people don't read it and are surprised when they get there. I can imagine!

There is a lot of good knowledge about Seawatch packed in this thread, that I did not know. I would just concur that 1) Seawatch is a great family place with great ocean views, pools, hot tubs and even the landscape around the buildings is pretty awesome. 2) The Villas are set way back .. some even labeled 'ocean front' just because they face the ocean but are sandwitched between the towers (but bigger rooms). 3) You get more for the same number of points at Seawatch than at Ocean Blvd.

We stayed in a 3Br deluxe in south tower (unit xx05) many years ago. It was ocean front unit in the closest section of the south tower to the beach, with nice balconies from both the Master bedroom and the Living / Dining room area. My wife loved having the door wall open at night to hear the calm sound of the ocean.

We stayed in a three bedroom lock off. I was told all the three bedroom lock offs are 18th and 19th floor, and they all have ocean views. The one we had was ocean view and it was bigger then a regular three bedroom, because it was two separate units connected together. It also cost more in points. I agree with the others to call ahead of time, to see if they can make sure you have a room with a good ocean view. In the three bedroom lock offs, both balcony’s had unobstructed ocean views.

Can't help but wonder how many of the restaurants, stores, and attractions will be open, even if the resort is.

I know MB was on the "good side" of the hurricane but still, it took a lot of wind and water in a location that is barely above sea level.
