Have a question that maybe someone can answer. I keep a list of every timeshare I've ever stayed in and am only missing one resort. The resort in question we stayed at in Las Vegas in Apr 1992. It was on Koval Ave, small two story resort on the property that is now part of the MGM Hotel (about where the MGM Conference Center is now located. They didn't even have a management office on site, you called and got a 5 digit code to put into the manual code lock on the door when you arrived. The resort was demolished a few years later as MGM purchased the property to increase their size (they were in the process of building the MGM while we were staying there).

Does anyone happen know the name of this resort? I've tried searching for it to no avail. Thanks for any help y'all can provide.

If it's the 1 I'm thinking of, it started out as Ramada Vacation Club Las Vegas, then became Las Vegas Vacation Suites before settling in as Las Vegas Desert Club, then Summer Bay Las Vegas, & more recently, Holiday Inn Club Vacations At Desert Club Resort.

The interesting part is that the current location was swapped for the old site that you described, & whatever was on the current site got remodeled into what's there now.

Before the swap, the timeshare sellers at the old location mentioned what a valuable tract the old resort was sitting on, one that had all the big casino companies drooling with desire, such that all timeshare owners at the old site would be in line to collect major serious money -- dizzying amounts -- once the deal went through for the old site to be bought out for casino development.

That never happened, although I believe owners at the old location ended up owning upgraded & improved units at the new location.

That's the story in a nutshell, as I remember it -- although I could be semi-fuzzy on the timeline & some of the details.

Thank you but what I'm looking for is the name of that old resort that was torn down to make way for the MGM Conference center. I took tons of picks of the resort but never took a pic of the sign with the resort name and it was so long ago I just can't remember. I booked it through RCI but am no longer a member with them and I don't think they maintain a historical listing that far back anyway (this was back when you had to call RCI to make a reservation).

I was also going to say Ramada. It was a dump if I am remembering correctly.
I bought a studio unit there when it was Summer Bay Las Vegas off ebay for $124 all in. It WAS a dump. A bunch of pink stucco buildings with awful in-the-wall heat/air conditioner units. The clubhouse was decent.
Harrah's wanted the land and moved us to a condo complex on the other side of Koval. The renovated each unit and it earned an RCI gold crown rating as the Desert Club. All studio owners were upgraded to 1BRs. The property that the old resort sat on is now the Linq complex. Holiday Inn Club Vacations took over the resort, and all owners were allowed to convert to HICV points for only a couple of hundred dollars.
All in all it was a good $124 investment. I have since deeded back the unit.

While it was small (maybe 16 units total) it wasn't a dump. We were in a very pretty 2 bdrm unit with a fireplace and nice galley kitchen. Small pool out back and then the chain link fence separating it from the MGM property that was being built.

I was able to convert a couple of pics. The area behind the fence is the MGM being built.

I understand it's a very pejorative term ("dump") and someone may be offended, but that looks like a $100/mo apartment in the middle of nowhere 30 years ago.

I don't speak for others but the only thing I'm offended by is the inability of some folks to stay on point within a thread.

If you think this looks like a $100 a month apartment you obviously have never seen a $100 a month apartment. Even in the ghettos of Detroit in the 90's apartments ran more than $100 a month.

To try and give a better understanding of the location, I included this map. The timeshare used to be in the approximate area of the MGM Grand Conference Center or FedEx Office Center. The Las Vegas Desert Club (among other names) is located about 2-3 blocks north of this location.
